2. KOHL’S
Notable observations for me with KOHL’S is that the store seemed very clean and inviting. I feel that the store has done
well to maintain their shelves and order. I also noticed that the environment was very calming and I never once felt
uncomfortable during my time in the store. One thing that I found to be peculiar is that I only saw once person working
in the store. When I first walked in there was nobody at the registers so I assume they have a light crew on a Friday
morning.
3. TARGET
When visiting Target there did not seem to be very many shoppers. The store seemed to be very clean and the
merchandise was well maintained and looked to be in place. There were signs hanging above the different
departments which seems to be very helpful when looking for something specific. I do not recall any music playing
and the only noise that I recall hearing was from other customers. The lines were not very long to check out which
made purchasing items very pleasant.
4. Marshalls
I found Marshalls to be a little less pleasant to shop at due to the presentation of the merchandise. There were signs
above the various departments but I still had some issues with understanding the layout of the products. I also felt
that the store was a bit warm which made for an uncomfortable experience. One thing that I noticed with Marshalls is
that the merchandise is tagged with prices and there are not shelves marked. It seems that the items are singular and
not sold in high volume, which is the possible reason for not marking the shelves.
5. Academy
Academy seemed to be a busy store at the time that I visited. There seemed to be sales throughout the store, which
seemed to be appealing. I also felt that the store was well maintained with little out of place but there were some
areas that could use some fronting. The temperature of the store was pleasant and inviting. Of the 6 stores visited
Academy was the only one where an employee asked me if I needed help. I hadn’t realized it before how having an
employee check up on you can be more inviting. It makes me as a customer feel welcomed and it makes me want to
visit the store again.
6. HomeGoods
HomeGoods was the busiest of the stores that I visited. I noticed like Marshalls the prices were found on the products
and not on the shelves, of course this is due to both stores being owned by the same owner. I did noticed that
HomeGoods was a little bit unorganized and there was merchandise on the floor and shopping carts in the walkways.
For the most part I did like walking through the store. I found that merchandise to be in great shape, as I found that
most of their products come form other major retailers who were not able to sell the items.
7. JCPenney
JCPenney was also not very busy. They too had sales that could be found throughout the store. This store smelled very
nice. I believe this was due to the Sephora that was located within the store so it made it nice to be in the store. I also
found the temperature of the store to be pleasing. The clothing in the store seemed to be well stocked and well
organized. I did see several employees working in different areas of the store and they were tending to the clothes,
folding and putting back on the shelves. I even took the opportunity to buy two pairs of pants due to the low prices
that I didn’t want to pass up.
