Finding the Extraordinary in
       the Ordinary

        Rebecca Legg
Beautiful Little Things...
I found myself taking pictures of colourful objects, mostly in repetition. It was
interesting to observe how many objects in stores had been laid out in this way,
almost as a pattern.
What surrounds us
I started to notice how stores and
shopping centres directed us,
using lots of signs and instructions.
In other cases it was about
creating an environment that
makes us comfortable and want to
stay longer or come back again.
The Unfamiliar
I tried to visit areas of stores which I would never really browse. Looking
for objects I had never seen before.
Less is More?
I started to examine shop windows and found you could often tell a lot by
looking in. Shops with very little display, and very little in the shop seemed
to be more expensive merchandise. Conversely, shops with lots of
merchandise seemed to be more affordable.
Beautiful Mistakes
I liked finding areas of stores
which didn’t seem to be perfectly
laid out: whether it be a shelf
unstocked or items misplaced in
the store. These deviations are
refreshing and surprising.
Missed Opportunities
Finally, I started to notice the amount of empty shops in our town- mostly due to
the recession. How could these spaces be creatively used in the meantime?
