- Oblique drawing is a pictorial
representation of an object, in
which the diagram is intended to
depict the perspective of objects in
three dimensions. This type of
drawing can be done either in a
cavalier or cabinet style.
Definition
CABINET
- It is a type of oblique
drawing where in the
depth size of an object
is scaled to half.
Two Types
CAVALIER
- It is a type of oblique
drawing where in the
depth size of an object
is in full
representation.
Steps in
Constructing
Oblique
Drawing
- analyze the
projected
drawing
(Orthographic
Drawing)
considering its
measurements.
- Draw a base
line and
construct the
front view of the
projected
drawing by
following its
given
measurements.

- Draw 45 degree
inclined lines from
each right corner
of the constructed
shape (the front
view of the
orthographic
drawing).
- Analyze the
depth size of
the oblique
drawing by
putting dots in
every 45 degree
lines.

- Connect all the
dots depending on
the correct
representation of
the object by using
straight edge. (e.g.
T-square or
Triangle)
- Heavy the
needed lines
and erase the
unnecessary
lines for the
final output.
Always consider the FRONT VIEW of the projected drawing
because it serves as the basis or guide in constructing oblique
drawing.
T- square for horizontal lines and 45 degree triangle for
vertical and 45 degree inclined lines. (T-SQUARE and 45
DEGREE TRIANGLE are the main tools in constructing Oblique
drawing)
Always take a look at the sizes of the projected drawing
specially the DEPTH SIZE.
Cavalier and Cabinet drawing are the same when it comes to
construction. They only differ in depth size. (FULL SIZE FOR
CAVALIER and HALF SIZE FOR CABINET)
