The Information Technology Act 2000 was passed by the Indian Parliament to promote e-commerce and regulate electronic business transactions. It aims to (1) give legal recognition to online transactions and digital signatures, (2) allow electronic storage and filing of documents, and (3) prevent cybercrime and protect user privacy. However, the act does not apply to electronic attestation for trusts, wills, property sales, or power of attorney agreements, which still require physical attestation.
