more than fast food. All in all we do not need to get more food for our money but get healthier food

people need to encourage strategies to these obesity problems within neighborhoods and between one

following a healthy lifestyle are significant, and the bottom line is that consistently healthy

The increased interest in drug treatment of obesity derives from the poor long–term results often
obtained with behaviour therapy, including diet and physical activity. Pharmacotherapy results in
weight loss in obese adults when used for 6 months to 1 year. The reason why a lot people prefer
this method is because it can save a lot of time. Treating obesity through the combination of diet and
physical activities will still take a lot of time, but this long term treatment can become a short term
treatment through

Fast Food Cause Obesity
There has been a rise in obesity in this country for the last forty years. Many scientists and doctors
have begun to question whether there is any relationship between fast food and obesity. According
to the available information the number of fast food restaurants has doubled since 1970s. (Currie,
J et al 2009).Currie J et al (2009) observe that the rise in the obesity cases in the last one decade has
been directly related to the rise in the number of people choosing fast food as their main menu. Fast
food has been described as food which is prepared in hurry for people who have little time during
meal times. These foods are very popular with the students and working people since they do not

higher among those whose schools were near fast food outlets compared to those students who were
attending schools in areas which were father away from the outlets which sell this type of food
(Rabin, R 2009)
Research has found that those families which choose the fast food as their main meal for more
than three times in one week are at a very high risk of developing obesity. In medical terms
obesity has been described as a public health concern which is putting many people at risk of
developing complications which may lead to early death. A person who has a body mass index
of more than thirty is described as obese while those who are above twenty five but less that thirty
are classified as overweight. In America two adults in every three is classified as overweight
whereas one third of the people are described as obese. These are high figures given the fact that
obesity leads to serious health problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
The fast foods are rich in energy giving foods making them higher culprit for weight gain among
those who consume this type of food. They are added excess sugars and fats to make them enticing

obese or overweight. It makes life harder and it makes life harder on your body. When the body is
overweight it puts more strain on the bones and joints in the body making them grow weaker and
deteriorate. Secondly being overweight can affect a person's breathing and energy levels. Lastly it
affects the heart, the more area bloods has to cover the longer it takes it to get back to the heart and
get reoxygenated. Not the mention with being obese and eating the wrong food it clogs up the
arteries and with plaque which then hardens on the walls of the arteries making it harder for blood
to pump through the arteries and veins and back to the heart.

5. Health Risks and Obesity Essay
Obesity has become the silent killer in American society. It is a risk factor for numerous chronic
diseases including the four leading causes of death. Obesity can be linked to stroke, heart disease,
cancer and diabetes, all serious health problems that can be fatal. Obesity is linked to 300,000 deaths
annually in the industrial world (Flamholz, 2001). Often in society and in the medical community
there exists a lack of understanding that obesity is in fact a disease and needs attention, otherwise the
rates of many diseases will continue to climb.
Obesity has moved to almost epidemic status in America. There are an increased number of people
in America that are obese. The percentage of people that can be defined as obese, those that are

They pointed to a multiple list of reasons why they found the results that they did. All of their
reasons talked about issues that cause people to become obese. They looked at access to healthy
foods, job related issues of stress, access to recreational and fitness facilities, and most importantly
access to medical facilities. All of these risk factors of cardiovascular disease are directly related to
obesity.
The lack of adequate health care for those of lower socioeconomic status contributes to the
problem of obesity. One study done in Europe found that obesity, which disproportionately
affected people with lower social status, was not only linked to cardiovascular disease but also to
mortality rate (Mackenbach et al 1997). These would seem obvious enough but the implications
deal directly with the issue of health care availability. The higher rate of mortality cannot be
explained by the increase in risk. The authors of this study concluded that lack of health care was
the true determining factor for mortality. People don't necessarily die from cardiovascular disease
especially if one has the money and opportunity to receive quality health care. It is much easier for
those with money to receive quality treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease. In the US
many poor families don't have access to regular

Teen obesity is a major issue in the world that is rapidly increasing especially in the United States.
It has now become one of the most serious health challenges of the 21st century according to
unitypoint.org. In the last 3 decades, teen obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled
among adolescents. Why you might ask. Well, children become overweight and obese for a variety
of reasons. The most common causes are genetic factors, lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating
patterns, or a combination of these factors. Only in rare cases is being overweight caused by a
medical condition such as a hormonal problem says webmd.com.

adults, but children are becoming heavy in the United States and maybe other countries". This
shows that humans do care about children becoming overweight because it is not right for at a
young age. Also, according to the text, "children who eat fast food regularly are less likely to meet
their nutrient needs and fall particularly short on vitamins A and C". This points out that children are
liking fast food since it is on the go, rather than a home cooked meal that has a lot of nutrients.
When it comes to advertising on the television makes children obsessed with wanting to eat fast food
on a daily basis. According to the text, "product preferences affect children's product purchase
requests and these requests influence parents' purchasing decisions". This shows that by showing
advertisements, the children are amused by how advertisements are, so the parents get convinced to
buy their kids that fast food. Another example from the text is, "it's not just that TV watching
encourages youngsters to be less physically active, but it also exposes them to food advertisements
that contribute to develop poor eating

8. Reflection On Obesity
For this week we had the ability to look into cardiovascular disease and how it is being an thing
that it effecting our generation. In this essay I hope to talk about what I imagine someone who is
obese may look like. I also hope to take a deeper look into the what some of daily activities are the
put people at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease and some or reasons why someone may not
be motivated to make a change in their life even though it can lengthen their life span. Last but not
least I hope to give my opinion if I believe that age is an factor in determine if someone is
motivated or not in making a change to their life. When I first hear the word obesity, I instantly think
of the standard American. In recent years Americans sense of portion size has increased
dramatically. People now think that it is healthy to eat fast–food for meals. Another thing that I think
of when I hear the word ont is someone who wants to make a change to improve themselves. This
can be difficult though because if someone is not use to eating a healthy and well balanced diet then
they have to change this habit which can be challenging to do. After thinking for a while, I honestly
can not think of any other non–contagious diseases that have been given the title of epidemic. In my
opinion though I think that using the word epidemic to describe the increase of people of obese is
not the best. I feel as though that this word creates the idea that being obese is contagious but rather

9. Childhood Obesity Essay
There was a time when chubby children were considered cute. It was assumed that their baby fat
would melt away and a healthy adult would emerge. We now know that childhood obesity can be
very harmful for our nations children. Not only can obesity cause health problems but also
psychological problems. In observing the causes of childhood obesity, hopefully we can slow down
the epidemic. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the number of obese children
ages 6–19 have tripled to 16% over the last twelve years. That is an alarming figure. One of the
main causes is lack of physical activity. This may seem like an obvious cause, but it seems to be the
one our youth have the most problems with. Physical education is being...show more content...
The age old saying, "You are what you eat" still rings true today. Fresh fruit and vegetables have
been replaced by french–fries and hamburgers. Children today do not know how to eat healthy. We,
as a nation, spend hours and hours bombarding children with fast food commercials, sugary cereal
commercials and cavity causing drink commercials. We than spend a fraction of that time telling
kids these things are healthy only in moderation. Our children's nutritional education is almost
nonexistent. Ask a fifth grader what the food pyramid is and you're likely to receive the same
blank stare as I did. Most children have no idea what a balanced meal is because they may have
never received one. Schools provide nutritional meals at lunch, but there is no enforcement when
it comes to eating your fruits and vegetables. Lets face it, children eat what's familiar. If they
haven't had it at home they are probably not going to eat it at school. If there are no vegetables at
home, they are not going to eat them at school. Home life definitely sets the tone for a child's
eating and exercise routines. Children are like sponges and they will mimic anything a beloved
adult will do. We, as the adult nation, are generally out of shape. We have become more reliant on
convenience foods that hold little nutritional value. With the rising cost of produce and the recent
FDA safety scares it might
