Oakland University launched a new branding campaign called "Aspire to Rise" to communicate the school's founding philosophy of providing opportunities for all students to achieve success. The campaign was developed over several years through research and input from university stakeholders to solidify awareness of OU's values and attributes. "Aspire to Rise" embodies the university's objectives and values and will involve various marketing, communication, and advertising initiatives.

Gary Russi served as president of Oakland University for over 30 years, establishing the university as a leader in healthcare education through a doctoral nursing program and a new health sciences building. It opened in 2004 and has received recognition for its success in helping students become engaged community members. The school partners with organizations like The Children's Aid Society. CAS formed a grassroots initiative in the 1980s to address teenage pregnancy by empowering youth to set goals and pursue education. Today, CAS's Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention program provides in-school and after-school programs for children aged 11 and older. In 2013-2014, Dr. Carrera spoke to AmeriCorps members at CAS about positive youth development practices and encouraged them to promote CAS's programs in literacy,

Gallup partnered with H.D. Woodson High School through SuitUp to host a business competition for students. Volunteers from Gallup coached teams of students who created innovations for more engaging workplaces. The winning team proposed a Well-being Space. Surveys found the competition helped students feel more confident and interested in careers like business and marketing. Volunteers and students both enjoyed the partnership and want to participate again.

Oakland University’s Human Health Building Wins Design Award
Under the leadership of former president Gary Russi, Oakland University established its $62 million Human Health Building, which houses the School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences. Spanning 172,000 square feet, the building features an energy-efficient design using solar panels, geothermal wells, and a variable refrigerant heat pump system. This has allowed the building to become the only LEED Platinum higher education facility in Michigan, and it won a 2014 Construction and Design Award for its innovative sustainable design that saves over 35% in annual energy costs.
Oakland University Opens Engineering Center
For nearly 20 years, President Gary Russi strengthened Oakland University's academics and facilities by leading the addition of 1.2 million square feet of new educational space, including a state-of-the-art engineering building. In 2012, Oakland University broke ground on a new 127,000 square foot engineering center to house its growing School of Engineering and Computer Science, which saw a 20% increase in undergraduate enrollment. The engineering center opened just under two years later, featuring laboratories, classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces to encourage innovative research and industrial advances through its unique architecture that has been shared on social media.

Educator Autonomy Project Report August 2014 (1)
The document outlines recommendations from the Educator Autonomy Working Group in Rhode Island to improve student achievement through increased local autonomy. The three recommendations are:
1. Increase awareness of existing autonomies at the district and school level in Rhode Island by communicating, hosting forums, identifying autonomies, and sharing findings.
2. Provide training, support, and resources to educational leaders to effectively carry out autonomous practices, including defining needed skills, developing professional development, and securing funding.
3. Create a clear path for local authorities and schools to implement autonomy in areas like budget, curriculum, and staffing, by further research to identify statutory/regulatory changes and a path for individual schools to become more autonomous

Oakland University’s Human Health Building Wins Design Award
Under the leadership of former president Gary Russi, Oakland University established its $62 million Human Health Building, which houses the School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences. Spanning 172,000 square feet, the building features an energy-efficient design using solar panels, geothermal wells, and a variable refrigerant heat pump system. This has allowed the building to become the only LEED Platinum higher education facility in Michigan, and it won a 2014 Construction and Design Award for its innovative sustainable design that saves over 35% in annual energy costs.
Oakland University Opens Engineering Center
For nearly 20 years, President Gary Russi strengthened Oakland University's academics and facilities by leading the addition of 1.2 million square feet of new educational space, including a state-of-the-art engineering building. In 2012, Oakland University broke ground on a new 127,000 square foot engineering center to house its growing School of Engineering and Computer Science, which saw a 20% increase in undergraduate enrollment. The engineering center opened just under two years later, featuring laboratories, classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces to encourage innovative research and industrial advances through its unique architecture that has been shared on social media.
Characteristics of Successful Capital Campaigns
While leading Oakland University's first capital campaign, Dr. Gary Russi completed the project in a record four years, securing $111 million in commitments and tripling annual giving. Effective capital campaigns identify major donors by building strong relationships with key individuals and engage the community through naming opportunities and communication about how funds will be used, keeping contributors interested and appreciative of the benefits of their generosity.
Oakland University’s Satellite Campus
Gary Russi served as vice president for academic affairs and later president of Oakland University for 20 years. He was involved in the planning and opening of Oakland University's satellite campus in Macomb County, Michigan. Universities develop satellite campuses located far from the main campus to serve students in those areas, and satellite campuses generally share accreditation and resources with the larger institution. Oakland University's satellite campus in Macomb County exceeded enrollment of 2,000 students since its establishment, providing university access to the previously unserved largest county nationwide.
The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education
Gary D. Russi began his career teaching at Drake University and later became vice president. He then served as vice president and president of Oakland University from 1996-2013, transforming it from a comprehensive to a doctoral research university. The Carnegie Foundation established classifications for colleges and universities in 1973 to facilitate comparisons. It recognizes six basic classifications that are further divided based on factors like degrees granted and research activity. In 2014, Indiana University took over maintaining the Carnegie Classification system.
The Newest Addition to Oakland University: The Elliot Tower
Gary Russi served as president of Oakland University for 18 years, establishing it as a premier healthcare institution through building projects like the Human Health Building. Since 1957, Oakland University has grown to be a pillar of the Michigan State University network. It recently unveiled a new 151-foot carillon tower called the Elliot Tower, developed with support from Hugh and Nancy Elliot and featuring 49 bells from a Dutch foundry established in 1660. The tower enhances the campus with a water fountain and garden area and will offer musical performances and education.
William Beaumont Medical Students Participate in Innovative Research
Gary Russi was president of Oakland University for two decades where he oversaw major growth in students and academics, including the opening of the William Beaumont School of Medicine, Michigan's first new medical school in over 40 years. Students at the William Beaumont School of Medicine often work with Beaumont Health System through clinical and research opportunities like Rachel Hunt, who observed the effects of radiation therapy on Alzheimer's disease patients with a research team. The study suggested radiation therapy significantly decreased beta amyloid levels in the brain, which is linked to Alzheimer's.
Oakland University’s Division I Status
Gary Russi served two decades at Oakland University, retiring in 2013 after overseeing the construction of the university's first medical park and transitioning the university to Division I status. There are 347 Division I schools in the US that must sponsor a minimum of seven sports for both men and women, with at least two sports for each gender per season. Oakland University achieved Division I standing under Russi's leadership before his retirement.

these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the

- 2. Oakland University Launches Aspire to Rise Campaign Educational leader Gary Russi retired in 2013 after serving as the president of Oakland University (OU) for 18 years. During his tenure with OU, Gary Russi played an instrumental role in communicating the institution’s vision and implementing critical strategic plans.
- 3. Oakland University Launches Aspire to Rise Campaign OU recently issued a press release announcing that the university’s founding philosophy has inspired a brand identity campaign called Aspire to Rise . According to representatives from the university, OU has always focused on presenting opportunities to everyone so that success is shared and attainable.
- 4. Oakland University Launches Aspire to Rise Campaign The brand identity initiative began when the President’s Faculty Advisory Committee was created in 2011. After evaluating a wide range of research, the committee concluded that a campaign was necessary to solidify awareness of OU’s values and core attributes.
- 5. Oakland University Launches Aspire to Rise Campaign The university began efforts to develop a strong brand in 2013, and a variety of university stakeholders helped determine brand attributes and a branding strategy. Based on the results of this inclusive process and additional research, OU generated its Aspire to Rise campaign, which embodies the university’s current objectives and historical values. The campaign will involve marketing, communication, and advertising initiatives.
