This document summarizes a study on using microfluidic chips to perform a rapid immunoassay for alpha-fetoprotein AFP-L3, a biomarker for liver cancer. The assay uses isotachophoresis and capillary gel electrophoresis on thermoplastic chips to separate and detect AFP-L3 from a sample within 120 seconds. The assay demonstrated good resolution, reproducibility, sensitivity down to 0.014 ng/mL, and ability to detect as low as 2% AFP-L3 content in a sample. The results indicate disposable plastic microfluidic chips can enable fast, quantitative, and sensitive diagnostics applications like AFP-L3 assays.
