This document provides instructions for searching the CINAHL database for nursing theory articles. It explains that CINAHL can be accessed through the library homepage and searched by entering "nursing theory" and selecting the suggested term. This will return a list of nursing models that can be clicked on to find related articles. As an example, it walks through searching for articles on the Newman Health Model, and describes how results can be filtered by publication type and date to refine the search.

2. Using CINAHL CINAHL - Cumulative index to nursing & allied health literature is a great database to search for Nursing theory

3. How? CINAHL is accessible from the Library home page under Journal Articles. It is listed alphabetically and by subject under Nursing.

4. CINAHL Type in nursing theory in the search box Ensure that the box next to Suggest Subject Term is checked off Click on the Search button

5. CINAHL Click on Search

6. CINAHL You will now see a series of suggested terms. To view models of nursing theory, click on the Nursing Theory link

7. CINAHL Click on Nursing Models Theoretical

8. CINAHL You will now see a list of different nursing models Simply click on the box next to any model

9. CINAHL Let’s select Newman Health Model

10. CINAHL Note that once we have selected a model, a list of subheadings appears and we can search for articles on our model by clicking on the green Search Database button

11. CINAHL We now have 160 results. We can limit this search by date, type of publication, peer reviewed, etc.

13. CINAHL Click on the box next to Peer Reviewed And type in your range of dates next to Published Date from

14. CINAHL We now have 14 results. To check if the article is available, click on the icon Let’s click on article #1

15. CINAHL This opens a new window. Note that the article is available as an ejournal To read it click on the link
