Hi!
Hello!
Lesson Objectives
Students are able to
count numbers up to
10 000
Students are able to
know place value of
numbers
Students are able to
compare and order
numbers
Students are able to
find the number
patterns
Numbers up to 10 000
10 ones make 10
10 tens make 100
Numbers up to 10 000
10 hundreds make
1000
Numbers up to 10 000
Ten thousand
10 thousands make 10 000
Numbers up to 10 000
3245
Three thousand, two hundred and forty five
Numbers up to 10 000
4421
Four thousand, four hundred and twenty
one
Numbers up to 10 000
2024
Two thousand and twenty four
Numbers up to 10 000
Place Value
3874 The digit 4 is in the ones place. Its value is 4
The digit 7 is in the tens place. Its value is 70
The digit 8 is in the hundreds place. Its value is
800
The digit 3 is in the thousands place. Its value is
3000
Place Value
1287 = 1000 + 200 + 80 + 7
2965 = 2000 + 900 + 60 + 5
4017 = 4000 + 10 + 7
4000 + 300 + 20 + 8 = 4328
8000 + 700 + 50 + 2 = 8752
7000 + 80 + 3 = 7083
Comparing & Ordering
Numbers
H
i
!
In comparing numbers, we compare the first digit in the highest place value. If the
digits are same, compare the next digits
Examples!
A. 2873 and 3871.
Compare the thousands. They are different, 2 is smaller than 3 so
2873 is smaller than 3871
B. 6978 and 6798
Compare the thousands first. Since they are same, compare the next digit
(hundreds). 9 is bigger than 7 so
6978 is greater than 6798
Comparing & Ordering
Numbers
H
i
!
In comparing numbers, we compare the first digit in the highest place value. If the
digits are same, compare the next digits
Example:
Arrange 1461 ; 1623 ; 1141 from the smallest to the greatest!
In the given numbers above, the highest place value (thousands) are same. So we
can compare the hundreds and arrange them in increasing order
Answer: 1141 ; 1461 ; 1623
Number Pattern
H
i
!
Because the rules is to add by 5, so the first blank should be 218 + 5 = 223
And the second blank should be 238 + 5 = 243
223 243
