7. In Numerals, lets locate the face and place value:
Face Value of a digit:
This is the own value of
the digit in a numeral, at
whatever place it may be.
E.g. in the numeral 5467,
the face value of 7 is 7,the
face value of 6 is 6, the
face value of 4 is 4 and
the face value of 5 is 5.
Place Value (or Local Value) of a digit:
In a given numeral:
Place value of unit digit = (unit digit) x 1,
similarly place value of tens digit will be
equal to (tens digit) x 10 and place value of
hundred’s digit will be equal to (hundred’s
digit) x 100 and so on.
e.g. 45278 = 4 × 10000 + 5 × 1000 + 2 ×
100 + 7 × 10 + 8
Here 8 is at ones place, 7 at tens place, 2 at
hundreds place, 5 at thousands place and
4 at ten thousands place.
The number is read as forty five thousand,
two hundred seventy eight.

A counting number divisible by 2 is
Even Number.

A counting number not divisible by 2
is Odd Number.

so, it is a prime number where as 4 has
more than two factors so it is a
composite number.
A counting number having exactly
two factors namely itself and 1 is
Prime Number.
A counting number which is not a
prime number is Composite Number.
Prime and Composite Numbers:
Co-Prime Numbers are those two natural numbers having HCF
equal to 1.

11. Prime Number Detection Method
Step 1: Let p be the given number.
Step 2: Now test the formula n2 ≥ p, where n is the smallest
counting number.
Step 3: Find all the prime numbers less than or equal to n.
Step 4: Take divisibility test of p with any of these prime
numbers.
Step 5: If p is divisible then p is not a prime number
otherwise it is.
Example: Check 437 is a prime number or not?
We know that (21)2 > 437.
Prime numbers less than 21 are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19.
Only 19 divides 437 which denotes that 437 is not a prime
number.
