Sibawaih, also known as Sibawayh, was an influential linguist
and grammarian from the early Islamic era. His contribution to
linguistics is his comprehensive work "al-Kitab," which is
considered the first systematic grammar of the Arabic
language. Sibawaih's grammatical analysis and classification of
Arabic morphology, syntax, and semantics laid the foundation
for the study of Arabic grammar. His work had a lasting impact
on the field of linguistics.

Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet, prose writer, literary

today.

contributed to the development of the modern understanding

James Harris, an 18th-century British grammarian and
philosopher. He made significant contributions to the field of
linguistics through his work "Hermes, or a Philosophical
Inquiry Concerning Universal Grammar.“ Harris discussed the
universal principles underlying language structure and syntax,
contributing to the development of the theory of universal
grammar. Harris's ideas influenced subsequent linguistic
thought, particularly in the areas of syntax, language
universals, and the relationship between language and thought.

22. • Benjamin Lee Whorf and Edward Sapir
Benjamin Lee Whorf was an American linguist. Whorf is widely
known for his ideas about linguistic relativity, the hypothesis
that language influences thought. The “Sapir–Whorf
hypothesis”, named after him and his mentor Edward Sapir.
Sapir was a leader in American structural linguistics and one of
the creators of what is now called the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis.
He was a founder of ethnolinguistics, which considers the
relationship of culture and language.
