Sintagg sintered fly ash lightweight aggregates are made from the sintering process of fly ash as per IS CODE 9142 PART 2. Sintagg is formed into small round pellets, which are then processed to creates a very hard aggregate with a honeycombed internal spongy structure. These hard pellets can then be used as a superior, consistent, lightweight aggregate which is up to 50% lighter than natural aggregate.

In developing countries, the untapped or unused resources are needed to be identified for its potential use in the construction sectors. The one such resource is waste paper. Paper pulp added with cement and sand hardens and forms a light weight construction material called Papercrete, which satisfies many of the engineering properties needed for construction. Papercrete has advantages like low-cost, economical and it is eco-friendly. In this research, papercrete blocks are created and their engineering properties are studied. It is to be noted that under compression papercrete fails slowly in a ductile manner but there was no earlier reliable research findings relating compressive stress with compressive strain which is covered in this paper.

A one day symposium on zero/low carbon sustainable homes took place at The University of Nottingham on the 24th October, 2012. The event offered professionals within the construction industry a unique opportunity to gain added and significant insight into the innovations, policies and legislation which are driving the construction of zero/low carbon energy efficient homes both here in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. It explored solutions to sustainability issues “beyond” the zero carbon agenda. BZCH followed on from the successful ‘Towards Zero Carbon Housing’ symposium the University hosted in 2007.
