Noise pollution is unwanted or excessive sound that can affect human health and environmental quality. It is caused by various sources including transportation, social events, household activities, poor urban planning, and industrialization. The effects of noise pollution include trouble communicating, harm to wildlife, hearing loss, reduced cognitive performance, and sleep problems. Some solutions to address noise pollution are installing soundproofing in buildings, restricting loud speakers, installing silencing devices on vehicles and aircraft, and planting more trees. Challenges in addressing noise pollution include social isolation from headphone use, increased noise from growing urban populations, and limited resources and capacity in many countries to effectively tackle the issue.

4. EFFECT OF NOISE POLLUTION

- High decibel noise can put trouble
and may not allow two people to
communicate freely
▫ Effect on Wildlife
-Wildlife faces far more problems
than humans because noise
pollution since they are more
dependent on sound
▫ Hearing loss
-At 85 dB, hearing damage occurs after
about 8 hours of exposure
▫ Reduce brainpower
-noise pollution reduces learning
outcomes and cognitive
performance
▫ Sleep problems
-it’s been established that sleep
disturbance is the most harmful
effect of environmental noise
pollution

 Install noise-
cancelling wall and
roof soundproofing
insulation material in
factory and industrial
facilities
 Use of sound
amplifies and
loudspeakers must be
restricted in open
area
 Silencing devices
must be installed in
aircraft engines and
transport vehicle.
 More trees must be
planted in
surrounding of
residential areas on
both side of roads.

 In crowded city headphone-wearers are simply masking the sounds of urban and
industrial noise with more noise. Not only does this cause social isolation, it
typically increases the risk of long-term hearing damage
 The increase in population and frenetic activity of our cities is causing a
proportional increase in the noise generated by vehicle traffic, followed by
industrial, business and night-life activity
 Many countries lack financial resources as well as capacity and skills to effectively
tackle noise pollution due to limited awareness of the harms and urgency of the
issue
