Rhodes City in Greece has issues with traffic congestion and lack of parking due to its small size and concentration of visitors. The document proposes three measures to address this:
A) Create a pedestrian zone in the city center covering 600 by 300 meters and ban cars. Construct parking at the edges and use small electric buses to circulate the pedestrian area.
B) Build two underground parking lots and extend the pier at Mandraki harbor to create a large submerged parking area, generating a new seafront plaza.
C) Change the uses of administrative buildings to reduce visitors and cars, converting them to cultural/entertainment spaces to enhance the city and tourism.
The document discusses plans for new downtown development in Singapore to address issues of limited land, overcrowding, and inadequate infrastructure. The development will transform underutilized waterfront areas into vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods with new housing, offices, retail, and public spaces. Major projects include Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Duo, Marina One, and South Beach. The goal is to create a sustainable and livable downtown core that maintains Singapore's status as a global economic hub.
This document provides concept design options for improving roads and infrastructure in Packages 26 and 27 in Doha, Qatar. Package 26 focuses on Haloul Road, while Package 27 is located in central Doha. Three concept design options are presented with the goals of creating more livable, walkable and sustainable communities through enhanced public mobility, vibrant streetscapes, and connecting public spaces. The designs aim to address the area's hot and dry climate, lack of shade, and pedestrian unfriendly environment. Design elements include widened roads, improved intersections, new parks and open spaces, landscape concepts, planting and materials palettes, and sustainable stormwater management approaches.

This is a challenging and visionary proposal for how 2000 new homes and additional employment and community facilities can be integrated into the historic city of Winchester. The presentation was given to Winchester residents on 6th August 2011 by Paul Bulkeley of Snug Projects Architects. Astonishingly the ideas received almost 100% support from the audience. The strategy not only provides much needed housing, it also improves the cities much loved setting, creating places where people want to live, work and play. Is this a new way of promoting development?

Mattancherry(old Kochi) is an old port town. Lots of communities from all over the world started settling here with a ma-
jor intention of trade since 14th century. Agricultural produces from the vast hinterland flowed to its markets to be sold or
exchanged for textiles, metals and other products of the European countries. Migrant communities such as Jews, Konkanis
and Kutchi Muslims(Kutchi Memons), though lesser in number, have also lived in Mattancherry for generations. These
communities enhance the cosmopolitan ambience of Mattancherry.
Today it lost it’s identity as the major trade centre of the region. Communities started moving out from the region because
of the lac of opportunities, Mattancherry, still have a mix of diverse cultural settlement. Each community have good intensity
of interactions between them. But the communities shows a tendency to isolate themselves from other communities. The shift
of the major economic activity, which was the prime factor of inter-community interaction, considerably reduced the chances
of interactions.

An old port town on the Arabian coast, which has more than1900 yeras of history. Kollam has had a strong commercial
reputation since 9th century. It is considered as one of the initial ports in indian coast.
The city is constricted between two natural treasures – Ashtamudi lake and the Arabian Sea. Main economy is generated
from Cashew, Coir, handloom and Tourism.
Kollam was one of the first District in India which tried to impliment IDDP(Integrated district devolopment plan) with public
participatory approach. Integrated district devolopment plan made by the authorities, neglects deep physical and cultural
connection of the fishermen settlement to the seafront. have with the place they live in. The final proposals as product of
participatory bottom-up approach is still failing in creating livability.
The intention of this demostration to give an oppertunity for authorities to understand issues in the
existing devolopment plan and how it can be modified in terms of proposals which actually gives
the oppertunities for the people to improve their life styles and economic status.
Selected demostration area was sea front of Kollam, which has the highest density of the people
and most of the inhabitants are fishermen.
Authorities intent to gradually move the fishermen from the area to create a better clean
face to the sea front, by creating a highway along the sea edge.
ISSUES :
Retaining and reorganising fishing harbour in coexistence with the settlement and open
spaces, yet maintaining cleanliness and creating an active, vibrant enviornment.
