The issue that I would like to work on is the issue of poverty.
Poverty is a global issue affecting millions of people around the world. It has been the cause of
concern for many people because poverty leads to other dangerous issues that may affect
humanity, human lives and human values. Poverty is prevalent all over the world because of the
poor economic structure of countries, poor resources and also because of illiteracy. The other
reason for poverty is simple laziness of people because they do not want to work, or they may
not have skills to earn money to make a living for themselves. It is a potentially dangerous issue
and it need to be solved.
Poverty matters a lot in todayâs world because poverty leads to other issues, such as increase of
crimes, malnourishment in children, early deaths of children, terrorism, social conflicts and
tensions among people. Poverty also can lead to another main issue of homelessness. It matters a
lot for everyone, people who are poor and people who are not so poor, and countries that are
poorly developed and countries that are well-developed because poverty may also lead to
increase in immigration and this immigration may become a world issue.
Poverty also creates a burden on the economy of the country. The healthcare field may be
affected because poor people may suffer from many diseases and they would need treatment.
They may not be able to pay for their treatment and the overall burden of healthcare would come
on the government healthcare institutions. Poverty is not a problem of a single individual, but it
is a problem of a community and a problem of the nation. People may think that poverty is a
chosen âproblem,â but this is not the case. Sometimes the economic situations in a country and
the prevalent corruption and unemployment may become the cause of poverty.
The best solution to the problem would be globalization and global help. The poor countries have
to be helped by the richer countries. The solutions should not be like donating money and
feeding for a day, but the root causes have to be identified and they have to be dealt with to deal
with the issue of poverty right from its roots.
Poverty is a global issue and there are many causes behind poverty, and at the same time there
are serious consequences because of poverty so some solutions are essential and the help from
the richer and developed countries is a welcome thought and a necessary one. This essay argues
that poverty is the problem of countries and communities, and therefore the root causes of this
problem have to be identified to eradicate it completely.

DEFINING POVERTY...
Absolute poverty is defined according to an absolute minimum standard, often called the âpoverty lineâ. Relative poverty means that you are poor in relation to those around you. Income poverty (âless than a dollar a dayâ, for example), means that you are poor if you have less money than the defined poverty line for your country. Human poverty takes into account other factors, such as life expectancy, infant malnutrition, illiteracy and lack of food or clean water. Basic needs definitions also go beyond money, to include all the things that a person needs in order to survive â including employment and participation in society.
MEASURING POVERTY...
Measuring poverty is always a problem, especially if you recognize that just using money is not enough. There are a number of new measurements emerging, like the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare.1 This measures âqualityâ economic activity by, for example, making a subtraction for air pollution and an addition for unpaid household labour.
Another method is the Human Poverty Index. This is ranked according to three main areas of deprivation: survival; knowledge and a decent standard of living. In the industrial world, where the Index also includes social exclusion, some 7 to 17% of the populations are classified as poor. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
⢠The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
⢠The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. 3. Whatâs the goal here?
The goal here is to end up poverty by 2030. More than 700 million
people still live in extreme poverty and are struggling to fulfil the most
basic needs like health, education, and access to water and sanitation,
to name a few.
4. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH POVERTY IN THE WORLD?
Poverty has many dimensions, but its causes include unemployment,
social exclusion, and high vulnerability of certain population to
disasters, diseases and other phenomena which prevent them from
being productive.

6. What can we do to help?
As we are not directly affected by poverty we many times think
there is nothing we could do about it. However in our daily life there
are many actions or activities through which poverty can be clashed.
If you are a young person, first of all you have to be sure that your
voice is being heard. To do this you have to know your rights, so in
this way more creative and innovative ideas are spread and can
cause a change. Also, you can contribute with different
organisations or with those people who sometimes need a hand.
7. If you are in the private sector, itâs a good idea to
focus on poor people, those who have economic scarcity.
There are different ways to do this from the private
sector, such as segmenting the economy where most of the
people are active or even by providing economic
opportunities to these people. If you are part of this
sector is important to have a role in this problematic as
this is a huge sector
8. Why should I care about other peopleâs economic situation?
There are many reasons, but the most important one is
because that we are all human beings, our well- being
is linked to each other. Growing inequality is
detrimental to economic growth and undermines social
cohesion, increasing political and social tensions.
9. Can we end poverty?
Is this an achievable goal?
Yes. To end extreme poverty worldwide in 20 years,
economist Jeffrey Sachs calculated that the total
cost per year would be about $175 billion. This
represents less than one percent of the combined
income of the richest countries in the world.
