You wake up and feel there's something missing in your life. You're not sure what. But you can feel the void in your life.
You get up to go to work. You work because of the pay, not because it brings you joy. Days drag on, you're low energy, and unhappy. Maybe you're anxious or depressed, or find yourself in tears. You constantly think “there has to be to my life more than this” or “what am I doing with my life?"
There's no magical cure that can remedy this, but there is a solution. The happiest and most successful people have discovered this solution: the answer is to find your life’s purpose.
Identifying your inner compass will transform your life completely. It could lead you in a new direction, give you more energy, the days will seem to fly by because you're spending time on your goals and purpose. You will feel rejuvenated. Clearer. Happier. Whole.
But finding your life purpose is a daunting and highly convoluted task. Most seminars and courses that focus on this topic charge up to $10,000, but they don't leave you with an action plan. Nothing will change and you won't see any differences.
In Life Hacker Club, we focus on actionable and practical hacks that are simple, effective, and easy. Our format makes things highly digestible because the more complex and vague tips are difficult to implement.

14. It hasn’t always been this way
The eternal struggle
- Lack of direction, going through the motions
- “Doing” a lot but not feeling happy or fulfilled
15. Our time together
Who am I here as?
Goal today
- Walk away with at least 1 piece of advice that will have a
lasting impact on your life
16. My journey of self discovery
- Started in 2008
- Read many books
- Attended seminars, courses
- Learned new things: meditation, photography
- Explored passions: travel
- Discovered greater purpose
26. Gratitude
Example Entry: December 1, 2017
- Friendly staff at the condo in the morning always smiling
- Got a haircut and feeling fresh
- It was warm enough to bike during the day and had a nice ride
- Johnny made me lunch
- Mom called me at night and had a good conversation
- Vince came over to help with listing audit
- Hired Ashley as our new VA
- Was hard on Vince and got into some bickering but learned that I need to ask
more questions instead of making assumptions
27. Gratitude
Daily Gratitude Journal
- Once a day routine
- Write down (at least) 5 things I’m grateful for
- Can be big or small
- Does not have to be only “positive” things
29. Purpose
The P word
- Where are you at?
- Clear about what your purpose is. Actively exploring or taking actions towards it.
- Have an idea about what your purpose is. Considered it or explored it a little.
- Haven’t really considered it or don’t have one.
- The magic pill
30. Purpose
Let’s break it down
- Dictionary definition: the reason for which something is done or created or
exists.
31. Purpose
Greater purpose
- AKA. life purpose, calling, life’s why, reason for existing
- Defined: a purpose or vision that serves a larger cause (ie. someone or
something one other than yourself)
32. Purpose
Why do you care?
- My road to becoming a nomad
- Your purpose becomes your compass
- Your purpose empowers and motivates you
33. Purpose
Misconceptions
- A purpose has to be big (they come in all shapes and sizes)
- You have one single purpose (you’ll likely have more than one)
- You will always have the same purpose (it’s likely to change over time and
evolve as you evolve)
35. Purpose
Curiosities -> Passions -> Purpose
1. Make a list of 20 things you’re curious about
2. Look at the list and see where 3 or more curiosities
intersect - these will be your passions.
3. Make a list of 15 large problems that you want to solve in
the world - the intersection of your passions that solves these
problems will be your purpose.
40. My Failures
• Tried to sell water bottles at the beach – detained by security
• Tried to setup infrastructure to sell photocopied textbooks in university – my now wonderful girlfriend
showed me that it wasn’t right (thanks babe!)
• Did numerous surveys and made business plans to start a green smoothie shop – never launched
• Built up an online marketing agency – lost it twice
• Started a supplement company and as it picked up traction, I threw it to the curb on a handshake deal to
move across the country
• Got into bed with a con artist and lost everything I ever had + $19,000 in debt + $12,000 in OSAP + no job
• Started consulting businesses with $/5day marketing budgets … got just a bit annoyed.
• Spent 7 months on a new product invention only to raise $2000 out of $85,000 on kickstarter (this was
with me calling in every favor I could think)
41. Soooo, Have things
improved or did Sharky
con us out of $$$?
• Where am I now?
• Head of Digital Marketing For A Tech Startup (Smart Home Technology)
• Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) For A Skincare Startup
• CEO & President Of A E-commerce business
Note: I have managed over 200 small business accounts (consulting on media spend, marketing
angles/creatives, business decisions etc)
48. Cliff Notes
The moment I signed the Papers = The jump into the unknown (when you do, it’s the age old
rule – most people quite the step before they make it. Practically speaking – double down on
trusting that it will take time (a fleeting commodity in our insta-gratified world). Make sure you
adhere to a long term vision.
The 15 year old driving you up the mountain = No momentum and everything is new. Easy
to want to quite at this point. When things get hard, have tools that help you manage emotions
– study and practice emotional control and intelligence.
The two word instructions = Exemplifies that you don’t know what you don’t know, so you
have to follow two philosophies at once – listen and learn from others (it’s difficult to do this
amazingly well) + learn on your own.
The Adrenaline Rush = Once you taste success, multiple things will break, so you will have to
figure it out quickly. To hack this, grow your network/support system. Get as many third
perspectives as possible.
Not Quite Right = Grounded more streamlined success will come, yet it won’t be without
turbulence. Don’t assume it’s in the bag until “the money hit’s the bank” – I made this mistake
too many times. Also when it does, it might not be as expected.
