Created to reduce the number of collisions and deaths caused by driving distractions and impairment, NNID brings patented technology, never before used, to bring safer driving closer.
While:
- Existing phone Apps for driver use have good intentions.
- Legislation is a herald of need and tries to force compliance.
None of that is working!
Apps, Legislation and Enforcement have not provided the societal force nor usability to deliver individual change and seem not to be making any progress toward saving many thousands of lives.
Safer Driving and Safer Roads -
Achieving personal behavioural change is complicated. Bringing High-Tech creates a network firewall to cell phones with no need for Apps. Now NNID is bringing that capability, it sets highly distracting Apps beyond reach and others; qualified as safest provide driving and travel aids for commuters, travelers, first responders and just to safely keep in touch with the family and the office.
Change starts with awareness, not prohibition.
NNID is looking for your contribution of energy, effort, relationship, outreach or donation. We are focused on:
Bringing awareness by empowering TV and Radio to talk about cell phone use in real time during their traffic reports.
Giving people their own personal and private feedback on their cellphone use while driving.
Providing an App-independent way, automated on the cell phone network, to anonymously provide the individual feedback.
Work with App and vehicle display developers to reduce distraction and provide needed best practices and consistency.
Getting everyone's attention and generating more interest in drastically reducing distracted driving behaviors is our first goal.
Your involvement and donation will make that happen.

Personal behavior change is hard.
Bringing High-Tech creates new network firewall
rules to cell phone data - distinguishing; voice,
texting, maps, video.
Now NNID is bringing that capability, it sets highly
distracting Apps and texting beyond drivers reach
and others; qualified as safest, allowed to provide
aids for commuters, first responders and travelers
or just to keep safe and in touch with the family
and the office.
Unplugged - but in touch.
3. No Apps Needed 3
Applications on cell phones can be a useful adjunct but are not needed for the simplest first step
in bringing safer driving. If your moving or have just stopped at a light, the network knows and
provides feedback – at the end of the drive or on the cell phone bill as a later reminder. Parents
love to know! Fleet operators love to know!
NNID does it all on the Cell Phone Network
Mapping Apps – if they are not too intrusive are intuitive and consistent with each other they
have great benefit.
Apps – that provide radio style audio entertainment vary widely in their intuitiveness, tactile
feedback and potentially distracting controls or display – Mostly these are just inconsistent
enough to allow attention to waiver.
Apps – that read texts, divert phone calls or mediate communication between someone else who
is not in the driving situation and the driver in an on-the-road situation are used by diligent
vehicle owners to enhance safety. On network NNID Technology can provide these with
advanced features
Cameras – monitoring the driver’s attention provide immediate feedback or scheduled review of
drivers attentive behavior.

10. About NNID 10
Our Mission Statement
We are here to save lives and keep our community focused on driving safely. Driving to new and better in-car
interfaces for both Infotainment systems and Apps that are well designed based on best practice research.
Contributing to safe autonomous transport systems.
About Reducing Distracted Driving
Research - Makes the path forward more positive and more certain.
Best Practices and Standards - Avoids driver confusion and aligns our community of interest.
Media - Keeps awareness to the fore daily.
Facts - Showing the present situation, the risks, impact with their consequences and progress toward safety.
toward safety.
Advocacy, Presenters and Press Kits - Communicating the complex and alleviating roadblocks through
through consideration, understanding, commitment toward action.
11. About NNID 11
Leadership
NNID is seeking the very best committed public individual and entrepreneurial minds to bring about
collaboration and a safer driving future.
Dr. Gerald Hayes Director ,Wireless Research Center - NC sponsor of the NNID initiative.
Graham Crispin is the Exec. Dir. of NNID Foundation, Inc.
Boards |Technology | Advocacy | Outreach
Our boards serve the community with a keen understanding of complex issues and the experience to
implement.
We are progressing our existing relationships with IEEE and CTIA to bring along the best minds and
achieve workable standards.
12. Program and Goals NNID has four Programs: 12
Program #1
Network Software Pilot - NCWireless Research Center
Implement a pilot software implementation of the Patents within the mobile cellular network system
to effectively create a set of rules that flags: text, call and application data use while the cell phone is in
motion and to publish those flags to the individual users’ cell phone bill and aggregate the data for
academic analysis. An analogy I that of a network firewall that can selectively: flag, allow or disallow
any chosen type of data traffic.
Program #2
Driver Interface Research into State of the Art - University Collaboration - Local Government - Police
and Emergency Services partner
a) Survey, measure and utilization on an anonymized, voluntary (but with social pressure) basis of a cell
phone application that allows the collection and daily publishing for safety and academic research
feedback on influencing drivers.
b) Messaging of this information throughTV "Traffic Reports " today we are seeing less texting on the
freeway but a little more around the mall" "Remember don't text and drive, your loved ones already
know you will be late"
13. Program and Goals 13
Program #3
Standards Organization Partnership (IEEE, CTIA) Delivering
a) Driver Interface Safer Design Standards for Screens and Apps
b) Virtual Environment for App Testing
c) Virtual Environment for Vehicle Testing
Program #4
Awareness and Public Service Announcements
a) Legislator Commitment
b) Media Engagement and new TV Programming "Phone use maps"
c) Template Corporate Fleet Policies
14. Distracted driving is still out of control. 14
Legislation has been unable to change behavior of our overriding addiction to
always on communication.
A combination of technology that gives us personal feedback, local news of a
steady change in texting behavior gets rewards and consequences.
This feedback may just change our behavior.
We can and should have less near misses, road accidents and tragedies.
Thanks for your interest, a contribution will drive this initiative safely forward.
15. Frequently Asked Questions 15
Q) How does this work without an App on the Phone?
A) The radio part of a cell phone network jealousy manages its frequencies, so any doppler frequency
change of a moving phone vehicle traveling at more than 5 Mph is known. That speed information is
added to existing messages to the phone billing system where "rules" allow or disallow types of data.
E.G. camera video, or Facebook messaging, can be tagged to the phone bill (or blocked) as a
subscriber determined setting.
Q) How does that change behavior?
A) It's not Big Brother, more like Little Sister, reminding phone users and Parents or Business owners
that a phone was moving while a text or any other potentially dangerous activity that uses data
happens while the phone is moving. People and not government are helping each other be safer
drivers. It's just like offering a fresh breath mint to a friend who needs one.
16. Frequently Asked Questions 16
Q) How are you going to make it happen?
A) NNID needs your support; we know that Cell Phone companies can work in their own best
interests and get new revenue. Insurance Companies can with Insurance Commission support
and researched data get new rates for non-texting drivers. Legislators can advocate for
something that works better than unenforceable laws and penalties, Google Apple and the Car
manufacturers can have better driver interfaces as members of standards groups and bring more
drivers to purchase newer better and safer cars.
Q) What about existing "Safe Driving Apps"?
A) Those Apps can help, with coordination and holding themselves to third-party testing that NNID
and Cell Phone Companies can set up. Some uses of phones and screens within vehicles can be
proven as safer, all the way from One-Star to Five-Star safety backed by university studies.
