 Health Minister pitched for PPP model
The Union Health Ministry announced that the government would focus on greater public-private
partnerships (PPP) to improve health care services in India. There is a huge scope for private players in
the overall teaching and training of doctors. Good infrastructure, latest techniques and expert medical
professionals is the key to better healthcare services for which the government has started working both
in secondary and tertiary levels.

 CallHealth is set to operate in Hyderabad
Healthcare products and service provider CallHealth will launch operations in Hyderabad by end
September, 2015. The platform will provide solutions ranging from diagnostics and imaging labs, to
hospitals, online health record management, doorstep drug delivery, palliative care and services,
wellness and doctor consultations. Callhealth will launch operations with 450 field staff, with qualified
nurses making home visits to tackle initial problems. The company’s charges and those of offline services
would be the same. Callhealth targets 80 lakh people in the Greater Hyderabad Metropolitan area to
begin with; it plans to expand into four metros by 2016.
 LifeCell forecasts tripling volumes
Stem cell bank LifeCell has forecast around 50 percent revenue growth by 2016, on tripling volumes. The
company’s new initiatives such as the restructured affordable pricing of umbilical cord at INR 9,990 and a
shift in positioning of the service are expected to drive the growth. Lifecell also intends to expand its
facilities across the country by adding another 80 centres in FY2016, for which it will raise no external
funds. The company posted revenue of INR 135 crore in 2014-15.
 EMRI forays overseas
GVK -Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which runs '108' ambulance service, plans
to launch operations in Sri Lanka by the end of 2015. According to an agreement signed between India
and Sri Lanka, the Indian government will fund the operations to be run by GVK with INR 50 crore in aid.
The service also plans to enter Indonesia, Thailand and the SAARC countries. EMRI operates 10,000
ambulances across 15 states and two UTs and provides emergency response services to more than 750
million people in India. The PPP-based project is the world's largest integrated emergency response
service

 Nutech develops HESC for Type II diabetes
Nutech Mediworld has developed a Human Embryonic Stem Cell (HESC) therapy to treat Type-II diabetes
patients who are on conventional pills and insulin treatment. This therapy will grow insulin-producing
cells in the human body without a donor match, until the patient’s blood sugar levels regain normal
limits. The six weeks therapy will cost around INR 1, 80,000. The ready-to-use product has a shelf-life of
six months and can be made available globally. Nutech is searching for partners to expand the treatment
across the country.
 Positive Bioscience, Myriad launch genomic testing
US-based molecular diagnostic firm Myriad Genetics and Positive Bioscience have entered into a deal for
an undisclosed amount to bring molecular genomic testing to India. The genomic test will screen patients
for cancer risks and enable patient’s families to take deterrent measures. All testing will be done at
Myriad's labs in the USA and Germany. These tests will give patients insights into possible healthcare
challenges they are likely to encounter and improve the quality of their lives. Through this partnership
Positive Bioscience aims to reach millions of people in India who are at high risk of cancer.
