This document discusses the concept of "smart cities" and the large potential market for smart energy, transportation, water, and assisted living technologies estimated at $408 billion annually by 2020. However, it notes that the term "smart cities" does not accurately capture what is really meant by big data management for large global cities. It proposes redefining the smart urban framework to better fit different city patterns, scales, challenges and societies. The document announces an open workshop to be held in Barcelona between November 19-21 led by Israeli experts to develop a new dynamic urban framework and establish Israel as the "smart urban nation."
