Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher known for his critiques of religion and morality. He attended university in Bonn and Basel, teaching at the latter. Some of his major works published in his lifetime included The Birth of Tragedy, The Gay Science, Beyond Good and Evil, and On the Genealogy of Morals. Nietzsche believed that God was dead and traditional religious systems had been undermined. He advocated for a new naturalism to replace old myths and argued that master morality based on one's will to power was superior to slave morality of kindness promoted by the weak.
