GSA Mission and Values
Our Mission
The Granite State Ambassadors program is dedicated to meeting
and exceeding the informational needs of guests and residents of
the State of New Hampshire through in-depth training and
active participation of our certified Ambassadors.
Our Core Values
We believe in volunteerism, participation, and cooperation.
We believe in training and demonstrating the essence of
New Hampshire hospitality.
We believe that citizen responsibility and living landscape are
the themes that define this essence.
Citizen Responsibility
A belief that individual citizens can and will take responsibility
for our future.
Living Landscape
A strong attachment to the condition of the state,
including both its natural resources and its built
environments.
In short, we believe that New Hampshire will only be a good place
to visit if it continues to be a good place to live. Visitors will come
only if we work proactively to retain our scenic open spaces, rich
historic and cultural attractions, livable communities, as well as
the social structure that values the individuals and permits them
regular opportunities to pitch in and make a difference.
3. A Message from Our Executive Director
First things first! I want to say thank you to Gretchen, Kelly, and the staff, and all the
GSAs I have been lucky enough to meet at MHT, special events, and trainings during
my first 11 months. Your guidance, endless hours of work and support, advice and
suggestions, patience, and helping hands have been invaluable.
A little background for those I haven’t met yet: a few years before Judi started
NHGSA, I worked with ski areas in our state to start Ski NH – and as president of Ski
NH, I attended many GSA trainings as one of the panelists in the Sports & Recreation
module. After 23 years at the helm of Ski NH, it was time to find a new challenge, and
I’m delighted this opportunity came along!
I am honored to be able to work with the Board and the GSA community to enhance
our current efforts to make every guest feel that warm New Hampshire welcome that
you all provide, and explore opportunities to enable us to do even more in the future.
Simply put, my goal is to work with the Board and staff to make NHGSA sustainable
from a financial and program viewpoint for many years to come.
I am very excited to be working with such a dedicated staff, and NH’s most enthusiastic and passionate volunteers.
Let’s have a great year! Most of all, thanks for all you do!!!
Alice Pearce, Executive Director
Cathedral of the Pines Class of 2014
A Message from Our Chair
This past year has been one of change—a new Executive Director, new Board Members,
new events, and new Granite State Ambassadors! For the Board of Directors, this year will
be one of consolidating our gains, developing plans for the next 3-5 years, and assuring the
continued growth of the organization. With the addition of Allison McLean from
Eversource and formerly with the New Hampshire State Parks as our Treasurer, Charlene
Courtemanche who needs no introduction, as our Secretary, Bob Albom, adjunct professor
at Southern New Hampshire University & NHTI and newly trained at the Mill Falls at the
Lake Class of 2015, and Carl Lindblade, affiliate professor in Hospitality Management at
UNH, our Board is ready to start our new Board year. We want to take this time to thank
GSA Lorraine Charron for her three years on the Board. Her wise counsel, both at our
meetings and when an issue arose between meetings, has been very much appreciated.
We will miss her at our meetings! And we look forward to welcoming a new GSA of the
Year to our next Board Meeting.
With the AMBIEs, Alice’s training year is complete, and I can step back to being just the Board Chair. I continue to be very
excited about working with Alice and seeing the places she will take us in the future. The rest of the staff has been extremely
supportive while Alice learned the ropes, working above and beyond the call of duty as they did while we had no Executive
Director. A lot of the burden fell to Kelly as she trained Alice in all the techy things about which I know next to nothing, and kept
both Alice and me on our toes as we dealt with each new season of our GSA year. I would like to publicly thank Kelly for all her
work over the last two years as we relied so heavily on her many skills and vast knowledge about the workings of our
organization. Naomi keeps finding new things to keep us busy like the New Hampshire Speedway volunteering next month!!
We rely on her to handle all the events with a high level of professionalism. Michelle continues to handle the finances so well we
know we do not have to worry. Since I hear nothing about Matt, he must be doing a great job!
Our sponsors have stood by us again, supporting us with both finances to run the organization and wonderful partnerships in
helping us to meet our Mission. DTTD found new ways for us to work with their Welcome and Information Centers, and we feel
they have made great strides in their operations. As the Manchester-Boston Airport has come through a difficult period, we have
worked together to expand and improve our service there.
We welcome our new GSAs who have been trained this Spring, and look for them to become wonderful members of our
organization. They all passed the test this year and we are very proud of them. When you experienced GSAs find them at a
volunteer center or event, welcome them and help them get a good start. And, thank you all for your hard work and dedication
— we couldn’t do it without you!!!

10. History of the AMBIE Awards
The Granite State Ambassadors’ “Achievement Awards”
were established in 1999 to honor 20 GSAs who had
achieved 100-500 hours of volunteer service. After
growing to honor hundreds of GSAs for thousands of
hours of service, the event was renamed the “AMBIE”
Awards (like the Emmy Awards, but for Ambassadors).
Throughout the year, fellow Granite State Ambassadors,
Center Managers, tourism and state officials, and the
traveling public, take time to give “Kudos” to our
Granite State Ambassadors, particularly those who
volunteer their time.
From these submissions, our Nominating Committee,
comprised of former GSAs of the Year, and Board and
Staff members, meets to discuss the suggestions. This
team develops a recommended slate of award recipients
for approval by the NHGSA Board of Directors.
Congratulations to our Annual, our Hours, our
Kudos and all our Award recipients, and to all
our wonderful Granite State Ambassadors for
your dedication and service to New Hampshire.

13. Service Award - Moe Demers
Comfort Inn Airport Class of 2011
The Service Award is given to the GSA who serves the GSA program volunteering his
or her time with enthusiasm. This GSA is someone who shares their training
expertise with others while still continuing to learn about the state of New
Hampshire. Moe Demers is one of the stars of the Sterile Side Walk About program at
Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Moe goes out of his way to serve passengers at
the airport with both his warm, friendly personality and his mobile device! Moe also
volunteers at many special events, and goes out of his way to share his
experience at the airport by writing blogs for the NHGSA website.
Hospitality from the Heart -
Joyce Heinrich
League of New Hampshire Craftsmen Class of 2012
This award is given to the GSA who spends endless hours trying to go
unnoticed and gives generous contributions to other GSAs from his or her warm
heart. Joyce Heinrich gives much of her time to the Concord Visitors Center and
the NH State House. Joyce works behind the scenes and never complains. She
makes each guest feel very special and has a special talent for mentoring new
volunteers. She steps back to let people shine, but at any moment is willing to step
up to do whatever is needed. Joyce is a quiet shining star.
GSA of the Year - Anita Memos
Lake Opechee Inn & Spa Class of 2007
The GSA of the Year is recognized for excellent service to the community and
dedication to the GSA mission. This GSA is making a difference,
providing guests a unique experience with spirit and enthusiasm, and helping
other GSAs by training and mentoring with patience. Anita Memos
volunteers tirelessly at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, and at many
special events, including as a supervisor at the Big E. Anita’s enthusiasm and
friendly nature help both guests and fellow GSAs to feel welcome. She spreads
cheer with the funny hats and earrings that she wears on holidays, and she
often covers extra shifts at the airport during bad weather.

he does. He is the first to praise another GSA and always looks at the sunny side
of everything. Howie is adept at making those around him feel comfortable, and
