royalties from the Irving Berlin song were do-
nated by singer Kate Smith to the Boy Scouts of

Robin Longendyke, The Salvation Army
Robin Longendyke, field Representative
for the Salvation Army, works in their Canton,
MA office. She spoke briefly about the history of
the Salvation Army, starting with its creation as a
break-away component of the Methodist Church
in England. The original leadership opened a
soup kitchen in London in the late nineteenth
century.
Today, the Salvation Army exists in 119
countries, including Haiti, where two of their
three buildings in Port-au-Prince were destroyed
by earthquake. Luckily the building left standing

are working in Chile, as well, with volunteers
providing local emergency help.

Student of the Minth award recipient, Lea
Chilazi. He noted her “genuine warmth and
infectious humor.”
Lea is a junior this year, and recalled
making different choices after an uninspired
freshman year. As a sophomore, she joined the
Amnesty International Committee at school,
discovering “I cared very much about every-
one being treated equally.” She also spent one
