GSA Mission and Values
Our Mission
The Granite State Ambassadors program is dedicated to
meeting and exceeding the informational needs of guests and
residents of the State of New Hampshire through in-depth
training and active participation of our certified Ambassadors.
Our Core Values
We believe in volunteerism, participation, and cooperation.
We believe in training and demonstrating the essence of
New Hampshire hospitality.
We believe that citizen responsibility and living landscape are
the themes that define this essence.
Citizen Responsibility
A belief that individual citizens can and will take responsibility
for our future.
Living Landscape
A strong attachment to the condition of the state,
including both its natural resources and its built environments.
In short, we believe that New Hampshire will only be a good place
to visit if it continues to be a good place to live. Visitors will come
only if we work proactively to retain our scenic open spaces, rich
historic and cultural attractions, livable communities, as well as
the social structure that values the individuals and permits them
regular opportunities to pitch in and make a difference.
Celebrating our
21st Year!
1996-2017
A special thank you to our
founders whose vision
still guides us today!

3. A Message from Our Executive Director
I am so grateful for all the support you, our volunteers, our partners, and our sponsors
have shown the Granite State Ambassador organization, myself, and NHGSA’s incredible
staff this past year. We’ve made a lot of new industry friends this year, and every single
one of them comments that I just light up when I talk about you, and your commitment
to the state’s tourism industry.
How can I not? Here in our 21st year, NHGSA can proudly say that we have certified
1,638 Granite State Ambassador volunteers and industry members through 75 classes.
Cummulatively, these GSA volunteers have served over 307,000 hours assisting our state’s
guests, and leaving them with a warm, welcoming impression of New Hampshire, which
in-turn encourages them to return again, and again.
In just the past year, 300 GSA volunteers served over 18,000 hours and assisted over
100,000 guests in-state, and when you include the 17 days they spend promoting New Hampshire in the Divsion of
Travel and Toursim Development’s New Hampshire Building Information Booth at The Big E in West Springfield,
MA, that number soars to over a million! That’s a lot of people who were touched by some real New Hampshire
hospitality, from some truly passionate, and knowledgeable New Hampshire residents. According to Independent-
Sector.org’s value of a New Hampshire volunteer, that’s $429,000 worth of dedication, and it doesn’t stop there. 200
of those GSA volunteers attended 21 educational opportunities this past year at their own expense and on their
own time to make sure the referrals they provide to our guests were genuine, accurate, and enthusiastic.
The board and staff have been putting a lot of time in, laying the groundwork for things to come. You can expect
to see many new programs rolled out in the next year to ensure that our GSA volunteers and industry friends have
even more volunteer and educational opportunities than ever, and our state’s guests and residents feel welcome.
Kelly Bryer, Executive Director
Museum of NH History Class of 2003
A Message from Our Chair
Has anyone noticed how busy Kelly has been keeping us?? Tours all the time, classes for
new GSAs and the State Welcome Staff, upgraded GSA clothing supply and logo, the Big E,
super 20th Anniversary celebration—the list goes on and on, and what a special year it has
been. We have a new, very young GSA, and Naomi is back—whoopie!!! Claire has figured
out all the intricacies of newsletters, monthly tally sheets, and all the things she does to
support Kelly. And, thankfully, Michelle continues to handle all those things nobody else
wants to do!! Thanks to you all for all you continue to do for the Granite State Ambassadors!!
We have a wonderful Board who continue to support us even when they change
professions!! Bill and Judi continue to provide the support to the rest of us in so many ways,
and are joined by Peter when he is with us in the summer and fall. Mike, Charlene, Peter,
and Chris continue to help us with ideas and strategic thinking. Fred and Mark have picked
up their duties quickly and have been a wonderful help to Kelly and me, as have our incred-
ible GSAs of the year, Sue, Anita and Sue. It is with great sadness (for us at least!!) that Sue Geyer completes her three
years on the Board—she has been a superb representative for you, and we will miss her greatly. “Thank you”, Sue, does
not begin to express our appreciation!
We could not do what we do with the wonderful encouragement, financial support, and friendships that we receive
from the Staffs at the Division of Travel and Tourism Development and the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. They
are wonderful Partners on our journey.
As we look forward to this new GSA year, I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation of and
admiration for Kelly. I don’t need to tell you that she is doing a super job as Executive Director, but it is pure joy to
work with her as we move this organization forward. And most of all, we love what we do—you are one fabulous group
of Volunteers “Welcoming the World to New Hampshire”!!

Ambassador volunteers and friends at The Radisson Hotel in
Downtown Manchester. Thank you for celebrating with us!
10. History of the AMBIE Awards
The Granite State Ambassadors’ “Achievement Awards”
were established in 1999 to honor 20 GSAs who had
achieved 100-500 hours of volunteer service. After
growing to honor hundreds of GSAs for thousands of
hours of service, the event was renamed the “AMBIE”
Awards (like the Emmy Awards, but for Ambassadors).
Throughout the year, fellow Granite State Ambassadors,
Center Managers, tourism and state officials, and the
traveling public, take time to give “Kudos” to our Granite
State Ambassadors, particularly those who volunteer their
time.
From these submissions, our Nominating Committee,
comprised of former GSAs of the Year, and Board and
Staff members, meets to discuss the suggestions. This team
develops a recommended slate of award recipients for
approval by the NHGSA Board of Directors.
Congratulations to our Annual, our Hours, our Kudos and
all our Award recipients, and to all our wonderful Granite
State Ambassadors for your dedication and service to New
Hampshire.

13. Service Award - Maureen Walsh
McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center Class of 2014
The Service Award is given to the GSA that serves the GSA program by volunteering
their time with enthusiasm. They are someone who shares their training expertise with
others while still continuing to learn about the state of New Hampshire.
Maureen Walsh is always willing to lend a hand, and will happily do whatever task is
needed. Maureen is easy to work with, and a good mentor to other GSAs. She is ex-
tremely knowledgeable about NH, and is always ready to share that knowledge with
guests and fellow GSAs alike. Maureen volunteers at the NH State House Visitor Center,
Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, the Downtown Manchester Info Center, and at
special events.
Hospitality from the Heart - Diane LaBelle
Red River Theatre Class of 2013
This award is given to the GSA who spends endless hours trying to go unnoticed and
gives generous contributions to other GSAs from their warm heart.
Diane LaBelle volunteers at many centers, including Manchester-Boston Regional
Airport, the NH State House Visitor Center, the Capital Region Visitor Center, and the
Tilton Visitor Center. She’s also a regular at many special events. Diane is a very warm
and approachable person. She is unflappable, always smiling no matter what happens,
and always willing to pitch in and help out.
GSA of the Year - Moe Demers
Comfort Inn Concord Class of 2011
The GSA of the Year is recognized for excellent service to the community and
dedication to the GSA mission. This GSA is making a difference, providing guests
a unique experience with spirit and enthusiasm, and helping other GSAs by
training and mentoring with patience.
Moe Demers is a regular volunteer for the Secure Side Walk About program
at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, and at special events. He helps both
NHGSA staff and other GSAs in so many other ways as well: by keeping the
MHT Center Manager in the loop with updates about supplies and literature at
the booth, by writing blog posts about the interesting people he meets on the
Secure Side, and sharing his photography expertise.
Judi Window, It’s Always Sunny in NH - Dan Memos
Division of Travel & Tourism Class of 2009
The Judi Window It’s Always Sunny in NH Award is given to the person who best
exemplifies the “It’s Always Sunny in NH” spirit, serving guests even in difficult situ-
ations with a smile and a positive outlook.
Dan Memos is always around with a smile or hug and to help where needed. His
good humor, whether it be joking with guests about our “seasonal” highway maps or
donning a smile along with the crazy hats that Kelly makes him at the Big E, is a wel-
come part of any center or event. Dan volunteers at the Manchester-Boston Regional
Airport and special events.
