The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. but a sense of incalculable possibilities and hope.
It is a time to make necessary and beneficial
changes. It can also be a good time to break with
harmful patterns of the past. The new year will
bring changes, as every year does. And though
changes can be challenging and uncomfortable,
they are a necessary part of life. It is best to
face them head on rather than cling to the
comforts of past memories.
A new beginning is valuable. We hope its promise
will last long into the year.

Stop Procrastinating
It is very important to stop
procrastinating not only for students,
but for all the people. We miss some
steps in success just because we delay the things and leave
them to be done at a later date. So let‟s promise to keep our
work updated.
Improve Grades
Concentrate on your academics. Good grades are necessary to
keep you confident. Give your 100% to your studies.
Be Health Conscious
Be advantageous of some fitness mantras. It is said , “Healthy
mind resides in a healthy body”. Keep this in mind and be
very conscious about your health. Take a balanced diet and
you will be able to concentrate more on your studies after
being healthy.
I hope that these simple tips will pave your way towards
success.

5. Seed Germination
Seed germination is a very important experiment for
kids as it helps them to learn about the origin of fruits
and vegetables. On 5 January 2020 our preschoolers
learnt about the steps of growing a plant. They sowed
the seeds in their respective pots and were really excited
to see their seed grow within a few days. Children had a
great time getting a hands on experience in sowing seeds
in their small pots and giving life to a plant.
6. Lohri Celebration
Lohri, the harvest festival of Punjab, was celebrated
on 14 January 2020 with great enthusiasm. The little
ones were told about the significance of this festival as
they offered prayers to Mother Earth. Both children
and teachers gathered in the School play field where a
bonfire was lit and everybody danced to the tunes of
folk songs. Children moved around the bonfire while
munching on peanuts, popcorn and gajak. Festivals
such as these help to spread good cheer and are
welcomed by one and all.
7. SHAPPY SHAPES
Understanding about shapes enable the children to see
the connection between objects. A fun filled activity on
learning different shapes was organized on 21 January
2020 for the students of class I. They made colourful and
creative composition with the cut-outs of different
shapes and enjoyed the activity to its fullest. The activity
provided our little ones a platform to develop and
showcase their talents.
8. SALAD MAKING ACTIVITY
A fun filled „Tri-Colour‟ themed Salad making activity
was organized for the students of Pre-school and
Pre-Primary on 23 January 2020 wherein the young
chefs portrayed their creativity through beautifully
arranged patterns with different mouth-watering
vegetables and fruit salads. All the kids were super
excited while preparing their bowls of salads and
enjoyed munching on the same. The activity helped the
little ones to understand the importance of eating
nutritious food including salad in our regular diet for
maintaining good health and keeping diseases at bay.
9. 'Halloween Treat' fashion show
A fun filled spooky 'Halloween Treat' fashion show was
organized for the young modernites on 23 January 2020
wherein everyone participated with full enthusiasm
which thrilled the audiences and judges with terrifying
masks, zombie makeup, and crazy costume. Our students
put in a lot of time and effort in to their costumes. The
students and teachers had a great time enjoying the treats,
music, and great company .
10. SAVOURY SANDWICH
A sandwich making activity was organized for the
students of class III on 31 January 2020 in the school.
This activity helped them learn how to work in groups
and help each other in the right way as well as learn
the etiquettes of serving. It also gave them a chance to
prepare their own food using a variety of nutritious
ingredients. The judges appreciated the presentation
and efforts of the young ones. The activity proved to be
great experiential learning for the students.
11. BASANT PANCHAMI CELEBRATIONS
“Basant Panchmi” marks the advent of the spring
season and is also celebrated to worship Saraswati, the
Goddess of knowledge and wisdom. The students of
pre-school, pre-primary and class I celebrated this day
on 29 January 2020 in school with great fervour and
enthusiasm. The children came dressed in yellow
clothes, offered yellow colored flowers to the Goddess.
and were also informed about the importance of this
festival. The children enjoyed the day, enlightened by
the blessings of Maa Saraswati.
13. donation camp
The children at MPS believe that no needy person
should be deprived of warmth during winters. Keeping
in view the severe weather conditions and to sensitize
the modernites towards the importance of helping each
other, a donation camp was organized on 5 January 2020
to help the downtrodden living in the vicinity of the
school. The students helped the needy by distributing
cardigans, shawls, caps, gloves, blankets etc. The
recipients felt grateful and showered their blessings on
them.
14. Donation Drive
Every year thousands of old, destitute and poor people die of
the cold. On the other hand, most of us let our old woolens lie
in cupboards and suitcases, unused. While working for the
welfare of underprivileged MPS organised a Donation Drive
in the school premises on 5 January 2020 wherein the school
fraternity donated woolens, thermals and other necessities to
the support staff of the school and Roti Bank, an NGO which
works for the underprivileged sections of the society. Such
heartwarming acts teach us that helping others is a most
precious thing in the world that cost you nothing but gives
you a lot happiness and sometimes bundles of prayers .
15. 71st Republic Day Celebration
On the auspicious morning of January 24, 2020
MPS held celebrations of the 71st Republic Day with
great fervor in the school premises. Modernites paid
tribute to freedom fighters, and everyone felt pride as
Madam Principal Ms. Alka Kapur, unfurled the national
flag and gave a thought provoking speech. The whole
school joined the choir and the song „Sare Jahan se Acha‟
reverberated in the surroundings as students sung with
great exuberance. The students saluted the National
Flag and pledged themselves to upholding the honour
and integrity of India while marching rhythmically to
the patriotic tunes. The program ended with National
Anthem and a message to make India a great nation
through collective efforts from all individuals.
17. Aryabhatta
Ganit
Challenge
Tanish Chandalawada of class VIII made the
entire MPS fraternity proud as he got selected
amongst the top 100 participants of Aryabhatta
Ganit Challenge conducted by CBSE. He bagged
the topnotch score in the challenge. Team MPS
feels honoured to nurture such talents.
Kudos to this budding Mathematician‟.
18. BUDDING WRITERS OF MPS
Young writers of MPS added another feather to the cap
as they stood winners out of 60 schools across Delhi in an
Essay Writing Competition organised by Shri Rama
Chandra Mission (Sahaj Marg Spirituality Foundation) in
collaboration with the United Nations Information
Centre for India and Bhutan (United Nations India). It
was indeed a moment of jubilation for the modernites.
19. CANVAS OF WINNERS …
Our students showcased their talent and creativity
through painting the plain canvas at the 20th Annual
Interschool on the spot painting competition held at
St. Mark's Sr. Secondary Public School, Meera Bagh.
Modernites gave a tough competition to 1000 students
from over 50 reputed schools from Delhi-NCR and
clinched the Rolling Trophy. Ahsan Raqeeb and Mahika
Aswani had a clear edge over their competitors and
reflected artistic acumen in collage making competition.
20. MPS : A HIGH FLIER AGAIN
The entire team of MPS expressed their gratitude and
congratulated Principal Madam Alka Kapur on receiving
the Swachh Bharat Principal Award and appreciated the
performance of MPS students in Swachh Bharat Painting
Competition organised by National Education & Human
Resource Development Organisation. Modernites
completely stole the show as 36 of them won various
titles in the event. It is a matter of great pride and
jubilation for the entire MPS fraternity.
22. Capacity building programme on
Psychology
A Two–day capacity building programme on
Psychology was organized in collaboration with
CBSE on 8th and 9th January 2020 to discuss on the
latest changes in CBSE curriculum, general
classroom problems in teaching Psychology,
selection projects, case studies and its completion.
Question paper framing as per new format was
also explained along the lines of Bloom‟s
taxonomy.
23. PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA
2020
On 20 January 2020 Modernites witnessed the live
screening of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020 with Hon'ble PM
Shri Narendra Modi wherein he urged the students to be
confident about their preparations and have faith in
themselves. He advised the students to learn from team
India and not to be afraid of failures. It was a motivating
session for one and all.
24. Workshop on Anger
Management
An informative workshop on Anger Management
was held on 21 January 2020 for classes VIII and IX.
Volunteers from Teach Peace Reach Peace
Foundation apprised the students about how to
de-stress themselves and take rational decisions in
life. Useful tips to manage anger in stressful
environment were also shared with them.
25. MPS FOSTERS UNIVERSAL BROTHEHOOD
As a part of International School Exchange Program, Mrs. Alka
Kapur, Principal, MPS and the Indian delegation visited One
Earth School and the Green School Bali. She interacted with the
students, discussed many recent developments in the world of
education and shared the best practices followed at MPS. Madam
principal also had a quality discussion with Swami Anand
Krishna, Founder, One Earth School on UN's Sustainable
Development Goals and Ms. Ni Putu Tirka Widanti, Director of
the Green school on the need for organising cross-cultural events
in various cities of India and Indonesia.
