Law Updates:
 Finance Bill set to limit RBI's role. The central bank will only be left
with powers to regulate repurchase and reverse repurchase rates for
money, commercial papers, and corporate bonds and debentures held
by banks and other financial institutions.
 SEBI warns companies and their directors of "stringent action" and
asked investors not to be lured by their schemes against fraudulent
NCD, NPS issues in the garb of private placement, without complying
with the provisions of Companies Act, 1956 read with the Companies
Act, 2013, SEBI (Issue and Listing of Debt Securities), Regulations,
2008 and SEBI (Issue and Listing of Non-Convertible Redeemable
Preference Shares), Regulations, 2013.
 Government will launch today a scheme under which firms can file a
single online common return on Shram Suvidha portal to comply with
eight central labour laws, a move which would improve ease of doing
business and reduce transaction costs.
PROFESSIONALS INPUTS:
 ICSI issues secretarial standards approved by the central government.
These provisions to be mandatorily followed by companies from July 1.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has accorded its approval to the
Secretarial Standards on Meetings of the Board of Directors (SS-1) and
General Meetings (SS-2) specified by the Institute of Company
Secretaries of India (ICSI).
 Vide Notification ref RBI/2014-15/573 FIDD.CO.Plan. BC.54/04.09.01/
2014-15 dated 23.04.2015, RBI has issued revised guidelines on Priority
Sector Lending – Targets and Classification. Now, loans to sectors such
as social infrastructure, renewable energy and medium enterprises will
also be treated as priority sector lending (PSL).
 Vide Notification No 3/2015/F.No.P.12011/3/2013-S.O. (E.S. Cell)
dated 17.04.2015 issued by Ministry of Finance, Govt. notifies
Registrar/Sub-Registrar as person carrying on designated business
under Money Laundering norms.

EARLY LIFE:
Chandra was born to a banker, and spent his childhood and adult years in Farrukhabd, a town in Uttar Pradesh. He
studied civil engineering from IIT Kharagpur and after his graduation he worked in Kolkata, for a short period of time
and then left for the UK to pursue his Master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of South
Hampton. Chandra belonged to a middle class family with average financial conditions, his father being a banker.
CAREER PROFILE:
Before his master’s degree he had a short stint at the Bridge and Roof Company in Kolkata. Chandra returned to India
in 1965 and worked at a government research centre in Roorkee as a pool officer. After gaining a bit experience by
working for a few years he decided get into business by starting a Consulting firm. In the seventies he got into
construction business. Later in the mid-eighties he and his company focused more on real estate and they began
buying land in Gurgaon. In the nineties the company initiated to work on middle leveled income residential housing
projects. In 1996 the first commercial office complex was built by Unitech, this was known as Global Business Park.
After the year 2000, Unitech became quite active in buying more and more land in the NCR region. Over the years the
company expanded its operations and its presence has been felt in other areas like Kolkata, Bangalore, Kochi,
Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Further now, Unitech has plans to enter the Telecom Business. Unitech also plans
to get into the infrastructure development and hospitality sectors. Through some business news it can be assumed
that Unitech is working on a mass housing project. It has also launched Unihomes which is a new range of low-cost
apartments, which boosted the company's sales. Not only it is expanding in Delhi, but outside New Delhi as well,
notably in Mumbai where it is redeveloping a suburban slum. The company's new venture Unitech Wireless, launched
mobile phone services under the brand Uninor, in which Norway's Telenor has two-thirds stake.
