Ridge Vineyards: The History of Monte Bello ridgevineyards
With the 2012 vintage of Monte Bello, Ridge celebrates 50 years of fine winemaking. The first vines were planted and construction begun on our stone and redwood winery in 1886. The first vintage of Monte Bello was in 1892, one hundred and twenty years ago. However, the winery closed during Prohibition, reopened with repeal, but closed again and the vineyards abandoned definitively in the early 1940’s. In 1959 the Ridge partners purchased eight acres of cabernet replanted in the late 40’s and forty acres of abandoned vineyard. They rebonded as Ridge Vineyards and made the superb vintage of 1962.

Rum was the original American spirit before the Revolution in the 1770s, fueled by cheap and readily accessible molasses from the Caribbean colonies. The number of small distilleries across North America was astounding. The tax on molasses was a principal factor in the American Revolution.
Several centuries later, craft rum distilleries are again sprouting up across America at an astounding pace. National, regional and local rums distillers are gaining well-deserved attention -- with many making their mark as true artisan spirits -- winning awards and setting new standards for authentic, hand-made rum.
At The New American Rum Revolution seminar, participants will explore rum's past, taste rum's present and listen to predictions of rum's future as they sample ten outstanding examples of great American rum.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Captain Pierce Rum Introduces limited Edition Rum for its 300th Anniversary
CASTRIES, St. Lucia, Feb. 27, 2017- Captain Pierce Rum, the oldest rum producer in the
world, based in Castries, St. Lucia, in the West Indies is celebrating its 300th anniversary
by launching a new product named Tercentennial Vintages into U.S. markets. On March
1, Tercentennial Vintages will be available at Sherry-Lehmann in New York City and
other fine wine and spirits shops in the U.S. Consumers can also look at
www.CaptainPierceRum300.com for more details on store locations and the anniversary.
The limited-edition rum is a special blend of Captain Pierce Rum, with vintages dating
back to 1935. Only 3,000 bottles of this rare blend will be sold in 750 mL throughout the
U.S. market.
The bottle will be sold in a Baccarat crystal decanter along with two commemorative
crystal glasses engraved with the company’s logo. The bottle will be presented in a
leather-encased, handmade wooden box lined with velvet and silk. In addition to the
anniversary, Captain Pierce Rum is also providing a new recipe book on cooking with
rum and a regatta series, sponsoring 30 sailing regattas worldwide during the upcoming
season.
Originally from Brighton, England, Captain Jared Pierce was a pirate in the West Indies
for nearly 20 years. He established the rum nearly 300 years ago on March 1. His boat
Frigate Ravens Revenge, crashed off the shores of St. Lucia and caused his to settle and
change his way by setting up a distillery. He became a philanthropist and established
Pierce Hospital that still exists today. At the time of slavery, Captain Jared Pierce was ne
of the most influential voices in speaking out against it. The Captain Pierce Foundation
offers college scholarships for local students to study abroad.
“Many rum aficionados will purchase this product as an investment, meaning the bottles
grow even more expensive and even tastier with time,” said Ian Pierce, co-president of
Captain Pierce Rum. “Our target audiences are families seeking holiday or birthday gifts
for fathers who have everything, sailors who are avid buyers or Captain Pierce Rum and
collectors of rare wines and spirits.”
Master Distiller Clive Davis talked about how he spent nine years experimenting to
create this special blend. He said, “I believe this rum can be enjoyed on its own, similar
to premium and rare cognacs or liqueurs. Mixing this drink with a soft drink or even one
ice cube would be deplorable.”
