Oral literacy
Clip Art (Microsoft,2010)
Children start possessing
this oral skills as they grow
and learn vocabulary to
express them self. In our
curriculum our aim is not
just for children to speak
but we want to improve
their skills to converse
efficiently. We can achieve
this by implementing
different activities that will
expand their vocabulary.
-Reading a book with
children and encouraging
them to retell the story.
-Show the pictures of the
book to the children and
support them to describe
what they see.
-Implement a dramatic
activity to motivate
children to go wild with
their imagination and retell
their favorite character
story by role playing.
By participating in all the
activities we will be
implementing, children
will have better oral skills.
As they will be able to
express them self in a
better way, maintain long
conversation, and use a lot
of vocabulary that will
enhance their
communication.
Reading
Clip Art (Microsoft, 2010)
Readying is one of the
important skills that build
on the children vocabulary,
listening, and writing.
Reading is one of the daily
activities that we
implement during circle
time in the morning.
After reading the book we
analyze it with the children
and identify the message
behind it.
This part is important as it
will help children to think
critically and encourage
them to extract meaning
from the images they see
or the story they hear and
retelling it in their own
words.
By engaging children in
different reading activities
though the whole program,
they will have a positive
association with reading.
- The benefit of reading
with children.
-They will be encouraged
to read independently or
with peers.
-They will be interested in
answering question about
books they read and tell the
story.
NewsletterAssignment 1
-They will try to imitate
the teacher or their parent’s
way of reading.
-They will start following
text with their finger as
they read
Writing
In our curriculum we will
encourage children to
participate in writing
activities that will help
them to work on their fine
motor skills.
We will have activities so
children can practice
writing about their favorite
book, animation, event,
and experience by creating
a scrap book. They will
have time daily to add
some writing and artifact
that reflect what they are
writing about. For instance,
pictures they draw or
picture they took with their
family.
And by the end of each
week they can take it home
to share it with their
family.
These kind of activities not
only will work on their fin
motor skills but it will
strengthen their writing
skills and from sharing
with their family the work
they have done this will
assist and guide them
through their writing
process.
Media literacy
Clip Art (Microsoft, 2010)
Media is one of the types
of literacy that is
introduced to children by
everywhere they go; they
are bombarded by
advertisement. However in
class we can incorporate it
through listening to cd’s
stories, and music. We can
provide children with
computer access to view
and use any programs that
enhance children media
literacy. By exposing them
to such literacy programs
we hope they will have a
broader learning about the
world around them. Media
is a powerful and attractive
tool that can educate
children about culture,
environment, reading, and
writing as long it’s
developmentally
appropriate.
