The Water Shortage Crisis Susan Carroll Aidan Brame
Can the water crisis be fixed by 2020? Here are some facts about water…
The people who don’t have clean water…
About 3.575 million people die each year from a water related disease.
84% of water related deaths…
are in children ages 0-14.
98% of water related deaths,
occur in the developing world.
884 million people, which is 1 in 8 people,
lack access to safe water supplies.
Less than 1% of the world’s fresh water is readily accessible for direct human use,
Let’s put it this way... About 0.007% of all water on earth.
An average American taking a five- minute shower uses more water…
than the average person living in a developing country slum uses in a whole day.
Poor people living in the slums usually pay 5-10 times more per liter of water,
than wealthy people living in the same city.
The daily requirement for bathing, cooking, and sanitation needs, as well as for use for survival,
is about 13.2 gallons per person.
2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation
Which includes 1.2 billion people who have no facilities at all.
The lack of sanitation is the world’s biggest cause of infection.
88% of cases of diarrhea worldwide,
are caused by unsafe water, inadequate sanitation or insufficient hygiene.
Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water related disease.
1.4 million children die as a result of diarrhea each year.
90% of all deaths caused by diarrheal diseases are children under 5 years of age, mostly in developing countries.
Are all made Think about it, Your body Your brain Your blood up of water.
We could go weeks without food. But only a few days without water.
What if we had no more? What if we ran out?
About 5 children have died from a water related cause, since we started our presentation.
