Old money refers to families who have inherited wealth over multiple generations. They tend to live in large family homes filled with heirlooms and drive modest, high-quality cars. New money, or the nouveau riche, describes those who recently acquired wealth, often from a lower class background, and conspicuously flaunt their wealth through lavish purchases and displays of status symbols like expensive cars, jewelry, art, and clothing. Some new money resent being looked down on by the old money class who see them as culturally inferior due to their lack of pedigree and upbringing.
