Holden walks back to his hotel in the cold after losing his gloves. In the elevator, the operator offers Holden the services of a prostitute. Holden agrees for $15 until noon. When the prostitute, Sunny, arrives, Holden is extremely uncomfortable as a virgin. He makes up an excuse about having surgery on his "clavichord" to avoid intimacy. Sunny tries to seduce him but it's too much for Holden, so he pays her $5 and asks her to leave.
