Project Undertaken
At FORD TECHNOLOGIES:
• POWERTRAIN Components
The input was in IGES/ CAD format and components were of CASTING mostly, even mid mesh
carried for pipes and brackets.
Geometric clean-up was done to obtain a better outer mesh/ mid mesh
Focus was to capture features and maintain good mesh flow, with the Global length, accordance with the
client specifications with proper quality, updating component properties and material assignment with
numbering and creations of tetra for various sections in the assembly as per the reference, even new
connections generated accordingly were ever necessary.
Modal/ free free run was performed for the normal modes
• Bumper assembly Meshing- RLE UK
• IP/Dashboard Meshing- RLE UK
• Centre Console/ Armature Moulding meshing- RLE UK
• HVAC components meshing- CHRYSLER
• Door trims meshing- RLE UK
• Head Lamp Mount meshing- RLE UK
• Mesh Generation For Battery tray- CHRYSLER
• Mesh Generation For SUN VISOR and other plastic parts- RLE UK, CHRYSLER, DEP
• Complete Chassis meshing- CHRYSLER
• Mesh Generation of BIW Automotive parts such as BSO, Fenders, Hood assembly, sun roof, Closure
etc.- RLE UK, CHRYSLER
The input was in IGES/CAD format and components were of sheet metal/ plastic, Geometric clean-up
was done to obtain a better mid-surface.
Focus was to capture features and maintain good mesh flow, with the Global length, accordance with the
client specifications with proper quality, updating component properties and material assignment for various
sections in the assembly.
Connections are done according to the requirement.
Deck used Abaqus, Ls-dyna, Nastran
Analysis Projects:
General modal analysis with and without constraints
1. Optimization of Refrigerator frame.(R&D)
The main objective of the project was to reduce the mass and the component was of sheet metal, meshing
was carried with original data and modal analysis was carried out to determine the natural frequency of the
frame and also to check the connections. Optimization was carried out keeping the frequencies below the
natural frequency. The material used was ABS for the frame and sheet metal for the legs. For different
iterations the deflection of the frame due to the weight of the refrigerator was kept constant and the volume
fraction and mass fraction were varied for completing the optimization.
2. Boot Lid Behavioural report
Data given was of two different material lid assembly, which one was of sheet metal and other was of
aluminium. We had to carry out shell mesh for the lids and tetra-mesh for the hinge. The connection of the
parts was with 1D for bolts, 2D for welds and material fill gaps and 3D for adhesive to for an assembly. Free-
free analysis was carried to make sure no errors.
Now the load was applied at the fixture/ stated points in + Z and - Z axis and the analysis was carried to know
the mode and behaviour which was noted and highlighted in the report to the customer.
3. Spoiler behavioural report due to aero loading
Data of CAD was obtained for high, low and mid positions, Mid mesh and second order tetra elements were
created according to the requirement, connections were done with rigids, hex elements, shell and constrains
were specified accordingly, aero load map was obtained from the mesh generated from the above and
analysis was carried accordingly for deflections and the stress due to aero-loading and the design was
modified and suggested according to the results obtained
