Research on costumes for our
actors
By Suhena
As the purpose of our music video is to mainly sell our
artist image we wanted to portray her similarly as to
how other pop singers are portrayed. They are
portrayed as very fashionable and stylish. Our artist
wore a bright red lace dress which we felt fitted our
genre. This also enabled her to stand out from the
background that we used and the props (balloons),
moreover, this is a way a ensure that the attention is on
the artist. The dress presents her as being fashionable
and girlie.
Many Pop artists may wear bright lipsticks, this
may be a way to make the artist look
attractive. We felt our artist should also wear
bright red lipstick to match her dress as this
will make her lips look bold. Although her
lipstick looks faded, this isn’t a huge problem
as this can be fixed using Photoshop which will
enhance her lips and make it look perfect.
We wanted our actor the
‘depressed girl’ to wear a
hat in the Canary scene
because we wanted to
show her style through our
costume decisions. The
beanie hat allows her to
have a distinct style of
looking casual which is also
reinforced in the
Winterville scene. This
makes it easier to
distinguish between the
“depressed girl” and our
artist.
Our actor wore skinny
jeans and shirt with a scarf
to give a casual teenage
look which we intended to
create, making the artist
stand out more than the
actor.
Our artist already had
ginger/ blonde hair
which was a bonus as
this made our artist
stand out and look
more like a Pop artist,
as many Pop artists
have bright coloured
hair which reflects
their personality.
Our artist wore a flowery
dress which also gave her
a casual girlie look as in
this scene they are both in
a shopping center which
makes it more realistic.
The flowery pattern on
the dress allows our artist
to stand out more than
our actor as our actor is
wearing dull colours.
Our actor wore a hat
even in the
Winterville scene
because this shows
her sense of style
and also allows the
audience to identify
who she is.
She is wearing dull
colours compared to
our artist, this is
because we wanted
our artist to stand
out more.
Furthermore, she is
wearing casual
clothes(coat,
jeans,& scarf) as
they are in a theme
park.
Our artist is
wearing a long
grey coat which
makes her look
fashionable and
attracts attention
like mentioned in
Goodwin’s theory
as this helps sell
the artist’s image.
She is wearing a
black dress even in
this scene which
gives her a
feminine look and
reflects her sense
of style.
