1) The UAE will announce the winner of a tender to build a liquefied natural gas import terminal in Fujairah by late 2014 or early 2015. The terminal will have a capacity of 9 million tonnes per year.
2) Qatar's $1 billion Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery Project started up safely and is recovering 100 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas that was previously flared.
3) Three oil fields in Libya, including the El Feel and El Sharara fields, have shut down due to power outages and security issues, cutting oil production by around 300,000
1. Shell abandoned plans to explore for gas in Qatar's Block D after a drilling well did not find commercial volumes of hydrocarbons.
2. Mubadala Petroleum, a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, signed an agreement with Somalia to potentially develop upstream oil opportunities in Somalia.
3. Iraq's Kurdish region began pumping oil from the Kirkuk fields, which were previously controlled by Iraq's central government, into the pipeline system in Kurdish territory.
Dubai Petroleum Establishment has discovered significant volumes of gas in its T-02 deep gas exploration well in the offshore Fateh field. The well flowed gas on multiple occasions from the Pre Khuff formation at a depth of over 18,000 feet. Initial indications are that the gas is largely methane with no hydrogen sulfide. Testing of the well is ongoing and will be completed in late summer 2015 to determine potential reserves and production rates. The discovery of domestic gas supplies could reduce Dubai's energy import costs and support economic growth.
US company IPR discovered oil and natural gas at a well in Egypt's Gulf of Suez. The well tested at rates of 3,611 barrels of oil per day and 2.9 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. IPR plans to invest in 57 wells in Egypt in 2014 to increase production and reserves. Separately, Drydocks World delivered the second of two modular capture vessels to Singapore-based AET to aid in oil spill response in the Gulf of Mexico. The vessels can store and process up to 700,000 barrels of liquid each.

Construction of the UAE's first nuclear power plant in Barakah is over 75% complete and on schedule to begin operations in 2020. The four-reactor plant will provide a quarter of the UAE's electricity needs and reduce carbon emissions by 12 million tons annually. Meanwhile, Norwegian company DNO made an oil discovery in Iraqi Kurdistan, and Chariot Oil & Gas received approval to farm out part of its Rabat Deep Offshore permits in Morocco to Eni, paving the way for drilling in early 2018. The US oil industry is also showing cautious optimism in 2017 after two difficult years, with some drilling picking up following OPEC's production cut agreement and higher oil prices.
Kuwait has signed a new 10-year deal to supply 300,000 barrels per day of crude oil to China's Sinopec Corp, nearly doubling previous supplies. The agreement will be worth an estimated $120 billion and accounts for 15% of Kuwait's petroleum exports. Separately, BP plans to increase drilling at its Khazzan gas field in Oman to unlock the large unconventional reserves there. Finally, Sea Dragon Energy has agreed to farm out 45% of its participating interest in the South Disouq Concession in Egypt to IPR Energy Resources.

The document discusses several topics related to energy and natural gas:
1) Abu Dhabi will host the SOGAT 2014 gas sweetening conference and exhibition from March 23-27, featuring workshops and presentations on gas processing technologies.
2) ONGC Videsh signed production sharing contracts for two offshore oil and gas blocks in Bangladesh and plans $144.8 million in investments.
3) Lamprell delivered the jack-up drilling rig "Qarnin" to Abu Dhabi's National Drilling Company on time and on budget, the third of six rigs being built for NDC.
SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract by Abu Dhabi Oil Company Ltd. (Japan) to provide project management consultancy services for an expansion aimed at increasing oil production from existing offshore oilfields in the UAE. The expansion includes increasing hydrocarbon handling capacity at existing facilities and developing the Hail oil field. SNC-Lavalin will provide services for front-end engineering design and engineering, procurement, and construction stages of the expansion project. OMV, an Austrian oil and gas group owned by Abu Dhabi, cut its 2014 oil production target due to uncertainty over the security situation in Libya, where its output has been halted since March. Mari Petroleum Company announced a significant gas and condens

British oil giant BP plans to build a $1 billion petrochemical plant in Duqm, Oman to produce acetic acid using BP's patented technology. This would be the largest such plant in the Middle East and make Oman a holder of the breakthrough production process. BP has signed an agreement with Oman's Ministry of Oil and Gas to construct the strategic project. Acetic acid has various industrial uses including in paints, adhesives, and polyester production. The plant is expected to create opportunities for downstream expansion in Oman.

The document discusses several energy-related news items:
1) The 17th WETEX exhibition in Dubai saw significant international participation and established itself as a leading regional platform for energy, water and the environment.
2) The field of companies bidding for Abu Dhabi's onshore oil concession has narrowed and projects to increase oil production are progressing despite lower oil prices.
3) BP expects to start producing 1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas from Oman's Khazzan field by 2017 with $16 billion invested in the initial phase.
Total and Qatar Petroleum are studying the redevelopment of the offshore Al Khaleej oil field in Qatar over the next decades to optimize exploration and production. Total discovered the field in 1991 and started production in 1997, but production has declined to around 25,000 barrels per day currently. To maintain production levels over the next 25 years, Total and QP plan to add more production wells and platforms through 2039.
TAQA, an Abu Dhabi state-owned energy company, forecasts capital expenditures of $2.15 billion for 2014, lower than the $2.37 billion spent in 2013. TAQA spent $356 million in the first quarter of 2014, with $290 million for oil and gas projects and $66 million for power and water projects. Lukoil plans to drill two deep evaluation wells in Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter desert in early 2015 to search for unconventional tight gas deposits, after other companies abandoned conventional searches. Petrofac was awarded a $970 million contract for a gas project in Algeria.

The value of contracts awarded to local Emirati companies for the Barakah nuclear power plant project in the UAE has reached $11 billion, more than double the value from a year ago. The project is on track and will provide about 25% of the UAE's electricity needs once complete. Qatar will reduce its condensate exports by 10 shipments per month starting in January 2017 as a new splitter at its Ras Laffan refinery comes online, allowing it to process more condensate domestically. US shale oil output is expected to decline for the seventh consecutive month in July due to continued low oil prices, while natural gas production is forecast to fall for a fifth month.

Algeria seeks to develop an LNG bunkering industry as the sector holds considerable growth prospects. Algeria is a large LNG producer and officials see opportunities in developing LNG as a marine fuel. A seminar discussed the potential for Algeria to become an important player in the emerging LNG bunkering field. Additionally, a UN report finds that governments can limit climate change through measures like energy efficiency and renewable energy, but global emissions must reach near zero by 2100 to keep warming below 2 degrees Celsius.
