1. Egypt has signed exploration agreements with Petroceltic, Dana Gas, and Edison to drill a minimum of 8 exploration wells in the Mediterranean Sea, Gulf of Suez, and Nile Delta. This is expected to attract $265 million in investment to Egypt.
2. India and the UAE have announced plans to increase renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on conventional fuels. However, high costs and lack of infrastructure pose challenges to renewable energy adoption.
3. Shell plans to sell three producing oil and gas fields in the North Sea as part of its strategy to divest $15 billion in assets over two years and focus on growth opportunities.
Gulf countries plan to agree by Q1 2015 to pay for shared energy with other energy instead of cash, enabling greater grid interconnectivity. Currently electricity prices differ due to subsidies. The GCC Interconnection Authority aims to finalize agreements for bilateral energy trading between 2-3 countries by January 2015. Consumption is rising 6-10% annually across the region, faster than global average. Connected grids allow countries to rely on others' reserve power, reducing needed power station building while maintaining reliability.
1) A Malaysian energy company, TNB Energy Services, is looking to partner with government-linked companies in the Middle East to enter the renewable energy market through joint ventures or special purpose vehicles.
2) Gulf countries are investing heavily in renewable energy projects, with billions budgeted for solar power initiatives.
3) TNB Energy Services has experience with renewable energy projects in Southeast Asia and wants to expand its expertise by partnering with Middle Eastern companies.
Two dozen international renewable energy companies have been shortlisted for the second phase of Dubai's Dh12 billion solar park project. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority received 49 applications for the 100 megawatt second phase. The solar park is expected to produce 1,000MW of solar power by 2030 as part of Dubai's plan to diversify its energy mix. Kuwait has announced a new five-year development plan for 2015-2020 with a focus on economic reforms and mega projects totaling over KD8 billion, including expanding oil and gas projects that the Kuwait National Petroleum Company will invest $35 billion in over the next five years. The document discusses several energy news stories from Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Libya. Specifically:
- A consortium including Qatar Electricity and Water Co and Mitsubishi Corporation will build Qatar's biggest integrated power and water plant for $3.15 billion.
- Oman's Public Authority for Electricity and Water is developing a National Energy Strategy to identify energy sources and meet the country's needs through 2040.
- A report found solar energy in the UAE is now cost-competitive with oil and gas, and renewables could make up 25% of the country's power generation by 2030 more cheaply than current targets.
- Iran increased
1) Specialist Services has won a contract from Petrofac to provide modular buildings for an offshore oil development project in Abu Dhabi. The scope of work includes engineering, fabrication and installation of 12 modules weighing over 8,000 tons.
2) ADNOC has completed the first high pressure, high temperature offshore well in the region, drilling to a depth of over 5km and a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius.
3) Saudi Aramco plans to invest $40 billion per year over the next decade to maintain its oil production capacity and double its gas production through offshore and other projects.
- Songa Offshore announced high operational efficiencies in January for several of its offshore drilling rigs working in Malaysia, Vietnam and Norway, although some saw lower earnings due to weather delays.
- Nigeria's state-owned oil company NPDC started oil production at the onshore Opuama field in partnership with London-listed Eland Oil & Gas. Output is expected to reach 2,500 barrels per day.
- Mexico's Pemex will export its first shipment of light Olmeca crude oil to India this month, in addition to shipping heavy Maya crude, as it seeks to diversify export markets beyond the United States.
- Libya's oil production is projected to more than double to 650,000 barrels per day in 2014, but ongoing instability and security issues will limit demand for Libyan crude. Militias still control much of Libya's oil export infrastructure.
- The PSVM deepwater oil project in Angola's block 31, operated by BP, began production in late 2012. Consisting of four oil fields connected to an FPSO, PSVM is expected to produce up to 150,000 barrels per day and is a major development for deepwater production in Africa.
- Multiple companies were awarded contracts to supply equipment and services for the subsea infrastructure for the PSVM project, including flowlines, risers, umbilicals,
The largest oil companies operating in Abu Dhabi will have to pay more for crude oil supplies after a 75-year partnership expires. ExxonMobil, BP, Shell and Total will pay 11 cents per barrel above the official price and will no longer have equity stakes after losing rights in the company operating Abu Dhabi's onshore oil fields. The companies bid for new production agreements but Adnoc may take until early 2015 to choose partners. Meanwhile it will supply the companies with oil under short-term contracts. BP also failed in a legal appeal to curb payments it says are "fictitious" from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill settlement. Oman's crude oil production declined slightly in December 2013 with China
- Nido Petroleum provided an update on production from the Galoc oil field in the Philippines, which has produced over 2 million barrels since the start of Phase II in December 2013, with 10 cargo deliveries expected in 2014.
- Further studies are being considered to better understand the potential of the Galoc Mid and North Areas to unlock additional reserves.
- Independent reserves assessments estimated the remaining reserves at around 2-4% lower than the previous assessment, within an acceptable uncertainty range and not considered a material change. Production has been consistent with previous forecasts.
Total and Qatar Petroleum are studying the redevelopment of the offshore Al Khaleej oil field in Qatar over the next decades to optimize exploration and production. Total discovered the field in 1991 and started production in 1997, but production has declined to around 25,000 barrels per day currently. To maintain production levels over the next 25 years, Total and QP plan to add more production wells and platforms through 2039.
Rex International discovered hydrocarbons in their second exploration well in Block 50, Oman, further validating their Rex Virtual Drilling technology which identifies oil directly from seismic data. This has a success rate of over 50% for exploratory wells compared to a 10-15% industry average. Additionally, Hibiscus Petroleum began drilling an exploration well in Masirah North North #1 in Block 50 Oman, selected based on Rex Virtual Drilling analysis and conventional methods. Dubai also launched the first regulatory framework for energy service companies in the Middle East to improve energy efficiency.
Tabreed, a district cooling company in the UAE, achieved energy savings of 1.2 billion kWh in 2013, equivalent to removing 110,000 cars from the roads. This included savings of 1 billion kWh in the UAE from its 60 district cooling plants. Tabreed provides cooling to major projects in the UAE and GCC countries and plays an important role in sustainable development.
New base special 08 january 2014 khaled al awadi part 2 Khaled Al Awadi
India plans to offer at least 56 oil and gas exploration blocks in its first auction in nearly two years. India wants to quickly tap domestic resources to reduce its growing oil import bill. Foreign participation in previous auctions has been limited due to lack of transparency and regulatory hurdles. India hopes that a new gas pricing formula linked to global indexes will increase foreign interest. Thailand's top oil and gas explorer PTTEP plans to invest $27.3 billion from 2014-2018, focusing on existing projects in countries like Algeria and Mozambique. PTTEP expects petroleum sales to rise to 337,000 barrels per day in 2014.
- Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and other international investors have filed lawsuits against the Norwegian government over plans to lower tariffs for the Norwegian gas pipeline system by 90%, reducing expected returns on investments of $5.1 billion from a minimum of 7% to around 4%.
- The lower tariffs are intended to encourage higher gas production but will result in an estimated $6.5 billion loss in income for investors.
- The UAE is working to increase adoption of solar energy through new regulations allowing private solar panel installation and efforts to develop self-cleaning solar panel technology suited for the region's dusty conditions.
Two major energy deals are expected to be signed between the UAE and Mexico during an upcoming state visit by the Mexican president. Mexico is seeking international investment and expertise to develop its oil sector after passing laws allowing foreign investment. Specific deals mentioned are a memorandum of understanding between Mubadala Petroleum and Mexico, and discussions between ADNOC and Mexico. Mexico is also targeting infrastructure deals and aviation routes with UAE companies.

Tabreed, an Abu Dhabi chilled water company, reported a 15% rise in profits for 2013 to Dh272.4 million, despite a 2% fall in revenues. The profit increase was driven by a 4% rise in revenues from its core chilled water business. Tabreed expanded its total connected capacity in the UAE and other Gulf markets. Analysts expect Tabreed and other district cooling companies to benefit from increasing real estate and infrastructure projects in the UAE ahead of Expo 2020.
Emrill, a Dubai facilities management company, signed a deal worth up to Dh100 million with Irish company Crowley Carbon to install technology to monitor electricity use in 800 buildings managed by Emrill.
New base special 07 january 2014 khaled al awadiKhaled Al Awadi

Electric vehicle and photovoltaic advanced roles in enhancing the financial p...IJECEIAES
Climate change's impact on the planet forced the United Nations and governments to promote green energies and electric transportation. The deployments of photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) systems gained stronger momentum due to their numerous advantages over fossil fuel types. The advantages go beyond sustainability to reach financial support and stability. The work in this paper introduces the hybrid system between PV and EV to support industrial and commercial plants. This paper covers the theoretical framework of the proposed hybrid system including the required equation to complete the cost analysis when PV and EV are present. In addition, the proposed design diagram which sets the priorities and requirements of the system is presented. The proposed approach allows setup to advance their power stability, especially during power outages. The presented information supports researchers and plant owners to complete the necessary analysis while promoting the deployment of clean energy. The result of a case study that represents a dairy milk farmer supports the theoretical works and highlights its advanced benefits to existing plants. The short return on investment of the proposed approach supports the paper's novelty approach for the sustainable electrical system. In addition, the proposed system allows for an isolated power setup without the need for a transmission line which enhances the safety of the electrical network
