2. • Neuro = Nervous system
• Plasticity = Plastes ( Greek Root) = Moldable
• Introduced by an Italian Psychiatrist named Ernesto Lugaro in 1906.
The term neuroplasticity describes how the brain can change
throughout life.
3. • As a matter of fact, everytime we learn something new harnessing the power of neuroplasticity.
• Neuroplasticity takes place every single day.
• Brain will always make new connection and increase the performance and health.
5. 1. Temporary – Short term memory
. ~ chemical and synaptic change
2. Long lasting – long term memory
~ Structural - new connection or neurones
3. Changes in cortical map
~ functional – new functions
- neurotransmitters switches (acetylcholine – GABA)
7. After a limb amputation, brain areas responsible for movement and
sensation after their functional communication.
Approximately 60 - 80% of individuals with an amputation experience
Phantom Sensation in their amputed limb and the majority of
sensation are painful.
11. • The process by which extra neurones and synaptic connections are eliminated in order to increase
the efficiency of neuronal transmission.
• Cutting of unnecessary connections in the brain is also integral to energy conservation.
12. Two principal of neuronal connection
1. USE IT OR LOSE IT.
2. NEURONS ARE FIRE TOGETHER WIRE TOGETHER.
17. • Components - Cell Genesis and Repair
• Alteration of existing neuronal pathways
• Formulation of new neural connection
18. Effects of Rehabilitation on plasticity
1. Physical Training
- Constraint induced movement therapy (CIMT)
- Body weight supported treadmill training
- Robotic Device
- Behavioral shaping
- Bilateral arm training
- Task oriented physical therapy
2. Aerobic Exercise
3. Cognitive training/ Brain traning
4. Environment Enrichment

Stroke onset Neuroplasticity Recovery
Facilitating of
Neuroplasticity
Rehabilitation = Motor re-learning + Physical conditioning +
Active Ingredients = Repetition + Intensity + Progression +
Medical Treatment = Thrombolysis +Stem cell Therapy + Brain
stimulation

I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to the teacher Dr.
Ajay Semalty as well as Swayam Online Academic writing course which
gave me the golden opportunity to publish this wonderful presentation
on the topic Neuroplasticity .
Thanking you.
