5. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the discussion the students can:
Identify the parts and function of the nervous
system.
Show appreciation on the importance of taking
good care of the Nervous System.
Illustrate how peripheral and central nervous
system works.
6. The Nervous System
It connects all our body parts and transmits signals
from one part to another. It is a system of cells,
tissues, and organs that regulates the body’s
responses to internal and external stimuli.
Two major divisions:
• Central Nervous System (CNS)
• Peripheral Nervous System
(PNS)
Function of Nervous
INTRODUCTION
7. Central Nervous System (CNS)
- It serves as the main processing center for the
entire nervous system.
It consists of two main components, namely the:
The Brain
The Spinal Cord
8. Central Nervous System
THE BRAIN
- is an organ located within the skull that functions as
organizer and distributor of information for the body.
It has three main parts:
• Cerebrum
• Cerebellum
• Brain stem
9. Central Nervous System
THE BRAIN
- It is large, found at the upper
part of the brain that controls
activity and thought.
CEREBRUM
10. Central Nervous System
THE BRAIN
- The part under the
cerebrum that controls
posture, balance, and
coordination.
CEREBELLUM
11. Central Nervous System
THE BRAIN
- The part that connects the
brain to the spinal cord and
controls automatic functions
such as breathing, digestion,
heart rate, and blood
pressure.
BRAIN STEM
12. Central Nervous System
THE SPINAL CORD
- It serves as a channel
for signals between the
brain and the rest of the
body.
13. Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
- It connects the central
nervous system to the
organs and limbs.
It has two main divisions:
Somatic Nervous System
Autonomic Nervous System
14. Peripheral Nervous System.
Somatic Nervous System
- This system is associated
with the voluntary control
of body movements. .
It has two main parts:
Spinal Nerves
Cranial Nerves
15. Peripheral Nervous System.
Somatic Nervous System
– it is the nerves that carry
signals between the spinal
cord and the body.
Spinal nerves
16. Peripheral Nervous System.
Somatic Nervous System
– it is the nerve fibers that
carry information into and
out of the brain stem.
Cranial Nerves
17. Peripheral Nervous System.
Autonomic Nervous System
- This system is associated
with the involuntary
control of body
movements and has two
subdivisions:
Sympathetic
parasympathetic.
18. Peripheral Nervous System.
Autonomic Nervous System
Sympathetic
- it is activated when the
body is in a dynamic role
or stress. (e.g., increased
heart rate and breathing,
dilation of pupil, sweating,
etc.)
19. Peripheral Nervous System.
Autonomic Nervous System
Parasympathetic
- it maintains body
functions and restores the
body to normal or relaxed
mode.

21. Nervous System.
The Nerve Cell
- it is the basic unit of
nervous system, which is
also called neurons.
- Neurons are cells with
the special ability to
carry signals or impulses.

Activity 2; A Nervous Trip
Objective: explain how the body processes are controlled through the nervous system
Procedure:
1. divide the class into 2/3 groups and compete with the other groups.
2. Among the members of the group, assign students who will represent the following
parts: Brain, Organ, Sensory Neurons, and Motor Neurons.
3. Have the “Brain” stand at one end of the classroom, and the “Organ” at the other end
near the blackboard.
4. After you choose who will be the “brain” and “organ” let the rest become sensory and
motor neurons.
5. Refer to the following illustration to see how you will position yourselves in the
game.
24. Nervous System.
