This document discusses various ways that bamboo can be used in business. It outlines how bamboo is used in furniture design, both indoor and outdoor, with over 1 million bamboo furniture units sold. Bamboo is also discussed as being used in large-scale construction, with the largest bamboo structure being a two-story, 25,000 square foot building in Vietnam. Additionally, the document presents bamboo as having opportunities in transportation, though does not provide details of an actual bamboo car.

The term “Vernacular architecture” in general refers to the informal building of structures through traditional building methods without using the services of a professional architect. It is the most widespread form of building .
Vernacular architecture has been growing over time with continuities changes, transformations and adaptations to the different social and economic conditions of each period.

. The argumentation of previous studies demonstrated the historical evolution of the materials in architecture and the position of the materials in the design process. The purpose is to recognize the role of materials in architectural design, and the materials are a core element of the design process. This paper is about the way materials can be used to create personality and character of the designed buildings. The research finds two overlapping roles for materials which are providing technical functionality and building personality. Thus building materials were one of the major factors for new innovation forms through the history of architecture and the key for future re-generations.

Lumber is observed the most widely used building materials in the United States most especially for residential buildings. The characteristics of lumber have made it suitable for a wide range of applications with few other building materials possessing the environmental benefit of wood. Aside the fact that wood is efficient and durable, the raw materials are planted, felled and processed into engineered and dimensional lumbers for sustainable construction. Lumbers that are produced from trees come in ranges, starting from minimally processed log at a log-home building site to a well processed and engineered lumber that are largely manufactured for various uses in the building construction. The project captures the evolution of lumber as an environmentally sustainable construction material, types of engineering lumber for construction, processing of timber for lumber, the preservation and application in the United States building construction industry.
HISTORY OF INSULATION
For as far back as history goes, the earth has experienced four distinct seasons. Some areas have always experienced more extremes in terms of temperatures and therefore had to find ways to maintain a comfortable living environment. Insulation has been used throughout the centuries to keep heat in and cold out or vice versa. It is interesting to note that some of the alternate environmentally friendly techniques that are being considered today, such as fabrics, were being used in ancient times as insulation.
Defining Insulation
Insulation refers to a substance that slows or retards the transfer of heat or sound. Most often, when talking about insulation in modern terms, it is in reference to the building and construction industry.
Ancient Forms of Insulation
Prehistoric people built shelters to protect themselves from the elements, originally using organic materials and later more durable substitutes.
Hot climates would construct homes with thick walls that would insulate against the heat and provide a cooler and more temperate indoor environment in which to live.
• Ancient Mayan ruins in Central America.
• Egyptians also used these construction methods to keep out the desert heat of the Sahara.
These homes had low roofs and small windows so the heat couldn’t easily enter and remain in the homes.
• Ancient Greeks probably made some of the more significant discoveries in terms of insulation - they used cavity walling to insulate the buildings. Cavity walling has a gap between two walls which traps air and moderates the temperatures. During the hot summer months, cavity walls kept the warm air out and in the cooler winter months, it would help keep the warmth inside the homes.
• The Romans also used cavity walls, though in addition, they used materials such as cork to insulate hot water pipes so the heat from the pipes would not transfer to the surrounding walls and floors, causing them to crack. Fabrics were also used as additional insulation. Scraps of cloth would be tucked into window frames to keep out the desert dusk or the icy European cold. Rugs made from animal furs were used as carpets and thick linen drapes were used as curtains. Elaborate tapestries were hung on walls and helped to manage some of the moisture buildup in the stone buildings. The tapestries also helped moderate the draughts that could sometimes cause an added chill.
Bamboo Building Systems Solve carbon Emissions and Desertification. Presented at the International Training Workshop on Sustainable Industrialization and Commercialization of NTFPs.
Bamboo is considered one of the best eco-friendly building materials. It has an incredibly high self-generation rate, with some being reported to have grown up to three feet within 24 hours. It continues spreading and growing without having to be replanted after harvest. Bamboo is a perennial grass and not wood and grows on every continent, except Europe and Antarctica.
It also has a high strength-to-weight ratio, even greater comprehensive strength than concrete and brick, and lasts incredibly long. It is, therefore, the best choice for flooring and cabinetry. Unfortunately, bamboo requires treatment to resist insects and rot. If left untreated, bamboo contains a starch that greatly invites insects, and it could swell and crack after absorbing water.
2. Precast Concrete Slabs
Precast Concrete Slabs
The slabs are formed at a manufacturer’s site and are shipped in whole sections to construction sites. Some are made entirely of concrete but have large hollow air spaces, like concrete blocks. Precast concrete slabs are used for walls and building facades as they hold up well to all sorts of weather, while others can be used for floor and flat roofs.
Concrete is an excellent way of controlling heat within a building and is affordable as a building material. The sustainability of precast concrete slabs is higher than many traditional concrete options as the slabs often take much less energy to produce and assemble. Precasting concrete also allows the material to properly cure in a controlled environment, rather than exposing it to a variety of unfavorable weather conditions while curing at a construction site. As such, precast concrete slabs avoid cracks and structural faults within the concrete and eventual demolitions.
4. Straw Bales
Straw Bales
It is another green building material that can be used as a framing material. They have good insulation properties and can act as soundproof material. It can also be used as fill material in between columns and in beams framework/ as they cannot allow air through, they can have some fire resistance properties.
Straw can be harvested and re-planted easily with minimal environmental impacts. Making straw into bales also has very low influence. They can also be placed in walls, attics and ceilings, to contribute to cooler the house in the summer and warmer temperatures in the winter.
5. Recycled Plastic

Rather than sourcing, mining and milling new components for construction, manufacturers are using recycled plastic and other ground-up trash to produce concrete. The practice is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and is giving plastic waste new use, rather than clogging landfills and contributing to plastic pollution.
A blend of recycled and virgin plastic is also used to make polymeric timbers, for use in making fences, picnic tables and other structures, at the same time, saving trees. Plastic from two-liter bottles can be spun into fiber for the production of

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
