This needs assessment survey found that participants were most interested in learning more about recently introduced skills and web 2.0 tools. The results showed what additional help some needed and that web 2.0 tools were a high priority for both learning and teaching. The facilitator will use the feedback to plan small group sessions on skills people wanted more practice with and introduce three new web 2.0 tools over the coming year.

Assessment of the quality of medical wikis

Needs assessment results
Renita Johnson-Harrison conducted a survey of staff at Brusly High School about their technology use. While staff reported using technologies like email and presentation software, they did not often use more modern tools. Most staff agreed on the importance of technology in the classroom and were interested in professional development training. Renita proposed providing small group professional development sessions during PLC meetings on topics like web 2.0 tools. She received permission from the principal to provide this training in late October or early November.

Using the Community of Inquiry Framework to Assess the Impact of Instructional Design Strategies and New Technologies in Online Courses
This presentation will examine how the efficacy of instructional design components and new online learning technologies can be assessed with indicators of the Community of Inquiry Framework (CoI). The CoI framework has attracted considerable interest and has been used extensively to study and design online educational environments (Garrison & Arbough, 2007). The CoI explains the online learning experience as a function of three overlapping presences – social, cognitive, and teaching. The construct was validated through factor analysis by a multi-institutional team of researchers in 2007 (Swan, Richardson, Ice, Garrison, Cleaveland-Innes & Arbough, 2008), however, many questions remain as to what factors influence the effective projection of each presence. As the model is based on constructivist learning theory, the impact of well designed instruction and pedagogically based application of new technologies should impact the level and quality of interactions probed by the CoI indicators. This session will examine how quantitative and qualitative analysis of course outcomes, using the CoI survey instrument and associated rubrics can be applied to continuous quality improvement from an instructional design perspective. Participants will be provided with instruments, analysis techniques and ideas or application in their own practice.Student’s Perspective of Interact
Interact is a learning management system introduced at Charles Sturt University in 2008. It provides various tools like forums, chat rooms, wikis and blogs to facilitate learning and interaction between students and lecturers. A survey of 59 students found that most found Interact easy to use and that it enhanced their learning by providing a central place for subject materials. However, the chat room was rarely used with students preferring forums for interaction. Improving lecturer participation and training was suggested to help students better utilize all of Interact's features.
Networking
On June 8, 2012, I led a session to network our collaborative inquiry teams and collaborative learning partners. We shared best practices for networking in the opening and minds on. The teams then shared in a way that underscored these best practices. Most team members were already on Edmodo, so we used Edmodo for sharing next steps. For those who were not on Edmodo, we got them set up with accounts, so they could participate fully. We had 30 iPads and 7 laptops available for people who did not bring their own devices. All of the iPads were utilized.

Video Analysis
The beginning of the video was helpful because it made me realize completing a project brings many rewards. The narrator talks about having discipline, which is essential, and that includes managing time, maintaining quality, and embracing both negative and positive changes. The experiences expressed in this first portion reveal the value of finishing a project. According to the narrator, working with like-minded people was inspiring (Sfedfundorg, 2008). Individuals that share ideas and perceptions despite their difference deliver beyond expectation. The second helpful portion was how the narrator identified her scope of research. Her approach made me realize that narrowing down individual options to a particular area improves the quality of information gathered. While the student learned a lot about technology planning and implementation, some of the stated learning outcomes around curriculum and assessment were not addressed. The student felt some assignments, like evaluating websites, were not adequately covered. - 2. These questions were geared to let me know how comfortable everyone is with what has been introduced thus far. I purposefully left out the names of the participants. These results have allowed me the opportunity to plan small group sessions on the skills that some felt they needed additional help with. I did ask for each participants name for that reason alone. The nice thing about these charts in docs is that they are interactive- when I hover I can see percentages or additional information.
- 3. This question was geared to let me know where the group would like to go next in our learning journey. Web 2.0 tools are of high interest not only as a student tool but also as a teaching tool. I will plan on introducing and providing experiences with at least three different Web 2.0 tools this year.
