NDepend is a .NET tool that provides code analysis and business intelligence metrics for code. It can analyze over 74,000 lines of code from an open source CMS called mojoPortal in just over a year. NDepend uses a Code Query Language (CQL) to allow users to write queries against code bases to retrieve metrics on methods, types, and other code elements based on criteria like lines of code, code changes, interface implementation, and test coverage. The tool also calculates common business intelligence metrics for code like afferent coupling, efferent coupling, and lines of code.

Compilers have been improving programmer productivity ever since IBM produced the first FORTRAN compiler in 1957. Today, we mostly take them for granted but even after more than 60 years, compiler researchers and practitioners continue to push the boundaries for what compilers can achieve as well as how easy it is to leverage the sophisticated code bases that encapsulate those six decades of learning in this field. In this talk, I want to highlight how industry trends like the migration to cloud infrastructures and data centers as well as the rise of flexibly licensed open source projects like LLVM and Eclipse OMR are paving the way towards even more effective and powerful compilation infrastructures than have ever existed: compilers with the opportunity to contribute to programmer productivity in even more ways than simply better hardware instruction sequences, and with simpler APIs so they can be readily used in scenarios where even today's most amazing Just In Time compilers are not really practical.

Speed on the web is a complex problem that we must solve at different levels of our app. But how can we do that and why should we care?
Source vs object code
The document argues that the distinction between source code and object code is a false dichotomy. It provides several examples to illustrate that:
1) Source and object code are relative terms, as the output of one program can be input to another. Programs typically undergo multiple transformations from higher to lower-level representations.
2) Even binary machine code can be read by humans with disassemblers, and interpreted languages can execute human-readable source code directly without compiling.
3) The boundaries between human-readable and executable code are blurred, as emulators and virtual machines allow otherwise non-executable code to run. All computer code ultimately expresses the same underlying algorithms and logic.

AspectMock
AspectMock is a PHP library that allows mocking of any method call, including static and private methods, without requiring code refactoring. It uses aspect-oriented programming to intercept method calls and return mock values. To use it, install via Composer, create a custom autoloader for tests, and define the class and methods to mock along with their return values. AspectMock makes it easy to mock code as written without dependency injection refactoring required by other mocking tools.

Building a µservice with Kotlin, Micronaut & GCP
The document summarizes a presentation about building microservices with Kotlin, Micronaut, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The key points are:
1) Micronaut is a new Java framework from 2018 that is designed for building microservices and embraces modern JVM features and memory management.

Looking at the Vue
Robert recently completed a large scale project using Vue.js, TypeScript, MobX and other terms to make this very high on Google rankings. Now it is the time for the retrospective, what went well and what did not. This talk is about the front end only and is light on demos, with the focus being on the real system which was built. When you leave, you will have a set of new architectures you can apply to your next web project, regardless if it is Vue, React or Angular.

Xamarin allows building native apps using C# that run across iOS, Android and Windows. LightSwitch is for quickly building line of business apps. Cordova uses web technologies like HTML/CSS/JS to build cross-platform apps. Azure VMs provide scalable cloud computing resources. Visual Studio in the cloud allows using VS via the internet. Chef and Puppet automate server configuration. PowerShell enables automation on Azure. Demos are presented on many of these topics.
Agile lessons learned in the Microsoft ALM Rangers
