Small Libraries Doing Big Things was a conference held on February 28, 2012 that highlighted how small libraries are providing major services to their communities. The one-day event included sessions on topics like helping patrons access eBooks, developing partnerships, creating a culture of learning in the library, collaborations between school and public libraries, teaching technology skills to patrons, using cloud-based services, developing gaming collections, and closing with a keynote on overcoming challenges in American libraries. The conference showed that smaller libraries can accomplish significant goals through community focus and innovative programming.
This session focusing on National Library of Medicine Digital Resources, will be presented by Marty Magee, Education & Nebraska Liaison, National Network/Libraries of Medicine. It will include such resources as Turning the Pages, and History of Medicine Resources, tutorials and much more!

The document discusses broadband mapping and planning initiatives in Nebraska. It describes the Mobile Pulse application, which crowdsources mobile speed test data from users' devices to map broadband availability and performance. The application is available in public and advanced versions, with the advanced version providing more granular data and licenses to partners. Speed test results from rural and urban areas in Nebraska are also presented.
What is E-rate? How can my public library benefit from E-rate? How do I apply for E-rate?
E-rate is a federal program that provides discounts to schools and public libraries on Telecommunications, Internet access, and Internal Connections costs in order to make these services more affordable. There have been some big changes to E-rate since USAC launched the E-Rate Productivity Center(EPC) last year. This new online portal is the main point of entry for all future E-rate interactions. With your organizational account you can now use EPC to file forms, track your application status, communicate with USAC, and more.
What does your public library need to know to use this new E-rate portal? In this workshop, Christa (Burns) Porter, Nebraska’s State E-rate Coordinator for Public Libraries, will first cover the basics of the E-rate program and then show you how to access and use your account in EPC to submit your Funding Year 2017 E-rate application.
Discovery tools that can be customized for your library can be a powerful alternative to Web search engines like Google. Dee Ann Allison, University of Nebraska - Lincoln, will show you how libraries can customize these tools to provide an Information Portal that brings together the best resources for our communities.

Libraries have been offering programming for decades, and in many cases the model has been, "Let’s plan a program, promote it, and see who shows up." This approach hasn’t changed much, even with social and technological changes, not to mention the pandemic and streaming programs. Program planning with a marketing mindset starts with identifying your customer’s needs and wants, then developing programs and services to meet those needs and wants. We’ll discuss how to use research – quantitative and qualitative – to plan and market programs that will engage your customers. We’ll talk about "bundling" programs and services for different audience segments. We’ll also cover how this more strategic approach can save time and resources for your library.
Presenter: Cordelia Anderson, Library Marketing and Communications Consultant, Cordelia Anderson Consulting.

While every library is unique, they all seem to share one thing in common: they could use more money! Grant funding might be the just thing to help buy technology for STEM programming, get a new service initiative off the ground, or complete a renovation. But applying for grants can be overwhelming – and that’s assuming you can even find one for which you qualify. This session aims to introduce you to the tools to make the grant application process more easily navigable. In this session, Kathryn will provide tips for putting your best foot forward when it comes time to submit your proposal. Handouts include a roadmap to success and descriptions of various sections of the application.

Have you wondered if your library's website needs some work? How do you decide that, without being subjective? How do you know what to measure, or how to measure it? There are many current standards for content, images, navigation, usability, and more that can be readily applied to your website, allowing for a more objective analysis of what you currently have. A website audit can provide a valuable framework, especially before beginning a full or even partial redesign of your library's site. Learn about data-based principles that can guide your future work and discover some tools that can provide concrete specifics for elements that may need attention.
Presenter: Laura Solomon, MCIW, MLS is the Library Services Manager for the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN). How to Manage Reception Report in Odoo 17Celine George
A business may deal with both sales and purchases occasionally. They buy things from vendors and then sell them to their customers. Such dealings can be confusing at times. Because multiple clients may inquire about the same product at the same time, after purchasing those products, customers must be assigned to them. Odoo has a tool called Reception Report that can be used to complete this assignment. By enabling this, a reception report comes automatically after confirming a receipt, from which we can assign products to orders.

Interactivity and collaboration leads to
discovery of new ideas and processes.
Both create engaging environments, which is
necessary and paramount for a child’s
development and educational needs.
These will then lead to adventures and
discoveries, that will be a longer lasting
memory than just “getting” the information

usually in computers, technology, science, or
digital or electronic art can meet, socialize and/or

20. Creation Station - Why
Creation:
Allows children to learn in new exciting ways
This type of environment will encourage more
families to come into the library with their children
Design Concept
Five Touch Screen Computers so children can
learn, build, share , and interact with the creation
sets
21. Gaming Stations
Have Kiosks setup with:
Xbox 360 Kinect and Wii
No Time Limits
This
will encourage kids to learn to share and
maintain the open environment
Gaming Stools next to the Kiosk so children
can make it their own friendly environment
“Sound Proof” Felt Barriers
22. Gaming Stations - Why
Involvement and communication
Attract new target audiences
Economy makes it hard for kids to experience
gamification
Gamificationis the use of game design
techniques and mechanics to solve problems and
engage audiences
Video Games are actually “stories” with a plot
and theme.
Encourages kids to come to the library
familiarity.

Containing:
Tablets (Andriod and Windows)
Ipads
E-Readers (Kindle, Nook, Sony…)
Have Fact Sheets about each technology
24. The Menageri-E – Why?
Low Pressure, No Sale Environment
Allows people to learn and interact with
technology without having a sales person
Leads to discovery of new technology and
ability to make comparisons
A great way to offer training and learning of
existing devices so patrons can decide what
best technology suits their needs
A great community addition
25. The Open Play Coliseum
Imagination Board

giant white board / green screen as the backdrop.
Kids can draw on white board / tell a story
Play A Movie…All Day.
Include related books -> with a “map” to find them
All day activities that are related to the playing
movie / related books…a story hour all day
Display a child driven art gallery – children can opt
to make them “circulating”
26.
27. The Open Play Coliseum –
Why?
Encourages creativity
The review board allows children to tell other children
(in their own words) what they think of a book
Crafts are fun, engaging, and helps children learn
White board allows for fun and interaction
Building a review with video is helpful to a child’s
development (telling a story)
The “story all day” motto allows people regardless of
work schedule to come in with their children to
participate in craft building and fun
The art gallery idea would allow children to express
themselves and take pride in their work as family and
friends “check out” their material
28. Computer Lab
Remodel the desks of the computer lab
To Flip-It Desks. Allows for more space and can be
used as a desktop or a worktop.
We have a laptop training lab in the works, we
can use those as usable mobile stations for
the children to use.
Kidsare more capable to
using a laptop correctly
since most families don’t
own desktops
29. Music Station
Music Pods – Relax
and play music off
computer
Tablet Devices to
play and stream
music from our self-
hosted music
system
Ampjuke
30. Music Station - Why
Interactive and Fun
Schools are cutting music programs

music genres/styles expands their knowledge
Reflects the interest of the community

Most children have to go back and forth between the
sections finding the books they like. Not many other
libraries separate like this. We can still maintain the J and
E labeling though.
32. Workflow Environment
Self Check Out Units
Children are highly receptive to the ability to do things
on their own and utilize technology
Mobile Check Out / Catalog Units
Allow people to use an iPad to either search or check
out material
