Digital Preservation is the focus of a three-part webinar series that will help you preserve your digital content. The LC’s Digital Preservation Outreach Education (DPOE) program simplifies the complex world of digital preservation into six tasks modules: inventory, select, storage, protect, manage, and provide. These slides are from our first three sessions. We will meet again in January 2015 to assess the program. This project has been funded in part with federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, under contract #HHSN-2762-0110-0010-C.

59% of US adults search for health information online annually, with most searches starting at search engines like Google. Half of online health searches are conducted on behalf of others. When finding health information online, people should use it to understand health issues and prepare for doctor visits but not to diagnose themselves or change medical treatment plans without consulting a doctor. Key factors in evaluating online health information are considering the author's credentials, ensuring information is current, checking for bias and conflicts of interest, and finding sources intended for consumers. Wikipedia is not recommended as a primary source due to lack of medical review of content.
