This document discusses the roles of teachers in the classroom and community. It differentiates the National Competency Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS) from the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). NCBTS defines effective teaching while PPST outlines what teachers need to know, value, and be able to do. Both standards have 7 domains but with some differences. The PPST replaces the NCBTS upon signing of DepEd Order No. 42 in 2017, which amended the previous DepEd order establishing the NCBTS.

STANDARDS (NCBTS)
– is an integral theoretical framework that
defines the different dimensions of effective
teaching, where effective teaching means
being able to help all types of student learn the
different learning goals in the curriculum.

12. PHILIPPINE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR
TEACHERS (PPST)
– is a public statement of what teachers need
to know, value, and be able to do in their
practice.

13. HOW NCBTS ADOPTED/USED?
• As a guide on their current teaching
practices
• As a framework for creating new teaching
practices
• As a guidepost for planning and professional
development goals
As a common language for discussing teaching
practices with other teachers

14. HOW PPST ADOPTED/USED?
• It shall be used as a basis for all learning and
development programs for teachers to ensure
that teachers are properly equipped to
effectively implement the K to 12 Program.
• Can also be used for the selection and
promotion of teachers.

Yes. This happens upon the signing into policy of
