encyclopedia of Sanskrit
literature, is the earliest work on
Dramaturgy available at present.
2.Bharatmuni and Ancient Indian
musicologist has authored the
theoretical treatise.
3.There are 36 thousands ‘sutras
’(couplet) and 6 thousands
‘shlokas’ through which
Bharatmuni talks about
performing Art, Theatre, dance ,
and Music.
Introduction:
The Natyashastra thus gives much space to the
construction of a play. Its chief protagonist is
usually a hero, often a king or a prince, and the
five stages of the play are seen from his point of
view. They are (1) the beginning, (2) the effort,
(3) the possibility of attainment, (4) the possibility
of resolution still overshadowed by conflicts and
obstacles and, finally, (5) the fruition.
