MEP DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR ENERGY
EFFICIENCY
• Energy Performance Optimization
• Following techniques can be deployed in addition to base building provisions to optimize
energy performance for the project:
• VAV Boxes for HVAC Systems for enclosed spaces & separately for interior areas near
glass facade & interiors
• Separate thermal zoning will be done for exposed area having direct sun gain so that
modulations will be done based on the sun travel path.
• DP sensor-based controls shall be provided for VFD modulation & RAT based control
shall be provided for CHW valve control
• Duct sizing shall be optimized for efficient air distribution.
• VRF system shall be selected which are BEE start rated with higher efficiency ratings
for critical spaces.
• Use of LED, Occupancy Sensors in all the regularly occupied area; LPD shall be limited
to 0.65 to 0.7 Watts / Sq.ft.
• Reduce the use of electrical lighting by introducing daylight into the space. Daylight
sensors to be installed
• Underdeck insulation shall be used for reduction of heat loads.
• Plan for active & Dynamic Controls
• Tenant-based Tenant Level Energy Performance Simulation analysis shall be performed
efficiency measures focused on load reduction and HVAC & Lighting related strategies
• Energy Metering-
• Advance energy metering shall be proposed for monitoring & mapping energy usages to track
efficiency during operations of tenant space, and all individual energy end uses that represent
10% or more of the total annual consumption of the tenant space.
• Energy metering to be integrated with the BMS System
• Energy Efficient Equipment (Client Scope)-
• Select ENERGY STAR appliances, office equipment, electronics, and commercial food service
equipment
• Select BEE Star rating Equipment
OTHER SUSTAINABILITY OPTIONS FOR LEED & WELL
Structure design efficiency
Energy efficiency
Water efficiency
Materials efficiency
Waste and toxic reduction
Building Flush out
• Before Occupancy flush out
• Replace the filtration media after flush out. Install MERV 13 Filter Media
Fresh Air Ventilation
• 30% additional Fresh air ventilation than ASHRAE Standard 62.1–2016, Sections 4, 5, 6.2, 6.5, and 7
• CO2 Sensor Monitoring in Densely populated areas
• Permanent entryway systems at least 10 feet (3 meters) long in the primary direction of travel to capture dirt and
particulates entering the building at regularly used exterior entrances
• Sufficiently exhaust each space where hazardous gases or chemicals may be present or used (e.g., garages,
housekeeping and laundry areas, copying and printing rooms)
IAQ Testing
• After construction and before occupancy, baseline IAQ testing to be carried out in occupied spaces for Particulate
matter and inorganic gases and Volatile organic compounds (all 35 VOCs to be tested separately)
Thermal Comfort
• Have HVAC Design Complied to either of the following options:
• ASHRAE Standard 55-2010
• ISO and CEN Standards
Plumbing Fixture
• Selecting Efficient Plumbing Fixtures or Existing LL plumbing fixtures can be upgraded to further low flow fixtures
if needed to achieve 50% water reduction from the Baseline
