Renewable energies like solar, wind, and hydropower are cleaner alternatives to fossil fuels as they don't pollute the air or water. Solar energy harnesses the sun's power through solar panels but is dependent on sunlight and space. Wind power uses wind turbines but kills wildlife and causes noise pollution. Hydropower is safer than fossil fuels but dams can damage habitats and cut off fish migration routes. Non-renewable fossil fuels are still widely used because renewable energies are difficult to store and more expensive to produce electricity from, though they are becoming more viable with technological advances.

much hydropower can be produced.

Some fish species and other creatures
normally migrate when there is a food
shortage. Building of dams could cut off
their paths leading to fish deaths.

6. WHY ARE NON-RENEWABLE
ENERGIES USED?
It’s difficult to store up wind and sunshine. If the wind
doesn't blow or the sun hides behind clouds, there
sometimes isn’t enough power for everyone. That’s
why we use fossil fuels: coal, natural gas and oil.
Also, it is because they're cheaper. It costs more
money to make electricity from wind or sun.
