2) Govt. has taken step to prevent
exploitation.
3) Visitors are allowed under special
conditions.
1st national park was yellow stone park in
USA establish in 1870’s.

Hunting, shooting, trapping, killing
capturing.
 Firing of guns.
 Burning, destroying, removal of plants
 Clearing of land for cultivation
 Construction of roads, railway line etc
 Surface mining

Kirthar National Park
1st and largest park of Pakistan.
Established in 1970.
 Stretches over area of 308,733
hectares.
 Located in Sindh.
Contains ravines, hills, hub dam, Ranikot
fort, old graveyards.

Species preserved in Park
26 Species of mammals present including
Sindh
ibex, Urial, chinkara, jackal, fox, hyaena,
jungle
cats, leopard, Pangolin, Ratel, Porcupine
and mongoose.
 Bird

larks.

Lal sohanra National Park
Total area of park is 31,369 hectares.
 Located in southern Punjab.
 Declared as national park in 1972.
 Variety of ecosystems present.
 2100 acres are irrigates artificially.
 A big lake covering the area of 50,000
acres.


 119 species of birds.
 27 species of reptiles.
 3 of amphibians.
 23 species of fresh water fish.

Chinji National Park
Present in salt range near talagang in
Punjab.
 Covers area of 6,095 hectares.
 Including area of soan river and soan
valley.
 Number of fossils have been collected
from this area so it is of great interest.
 Most of the park is fenced by 1.6m high
wire netting

Species preserved in Park
Main purpose of park is to conserve the
Urial.
 This park is natural home for
Urial, chinkara, gazelle, wild
boar, civet, wild here, mongoose, and
porcupines.

Hazarganji chiltan National
Park
Area = 12,567 hectares.
 In Baluchistan near Quetta.
 Established in 1978.
 Main objective is “to save chiltan
markhor.”

Species preserved in Park
 Animal: Wolves, hyaena, wild cats, hares

and porcupine.
 Birds: see-see patridges

chukor, wabbler, shrikes, rock
nuthatch, rock
pigeons, eagles, falcons, bearded vultures
hawks.
 Reptiles: Monitor lizards, geckoes, cobras

and vipers.
Darhune -Hingol National Park
 Two

separate Darhune and Hingol areas
merged to form a big park.
 Area 165,700 hectors.
 Stretches over the coastal areas of
Baluchistan.
 Imp. Wild animals are Sindh ibex.
Urial, chinkara.
Khunjerab National Park
Area 226913 hectares.
 One of World’s highest park. Karakorum
high way passes through all length of
park.
 Temperature remains below the freezing
point.

Species preserved in Park
Established to protect the morcopolo
sheep, Bharal, snow leopard, and
Himalayan ibex.
 Other species are: wild ass, brown
bear, snow cocks, snow patridges, and
black birds.

Margala Hills National Park
Area

12000 hectares.
Northern hill range of federal
capital of Islamabad.
Topography is rugged.
Very rich in ever green plants.
Species present in Park
Plants: Dodonaea sp., Acacia sp., olea
sp., carrissa sp., aristida sp., adhathoda
sp.,
themeda
sp.,
cynodon
sp., pennisetum sp.,
 Animals: leopard, foxes and barking
deers.
 Birds: kaleej cheer, grey partridge and
chukor.
Cheer was extinct in1978 and is re
introduces in park.

Chitral- Gol National park
Area 7780 hectares.
 Located in hindukush range near Chitral.
 Surrounded in high peaks.
 Markhor, snow leopard, snow
cocks, snow patridges, greenwood
pigeons and chukors.

Ayubia National Park
Area 1684 hectares.
 In abbotabad district.
 Important wild animals are
leopard, rhesus monkey, koklas and
kaleej pheasant.

