Work with the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board to to assist employers in the Local Area in meeting their
workforce needs; to assist job seekers in obtaining training and employment; to assist youth in acquiring the skills and
education needed to support their career pathway goals, and to respond to the policy and budget direction of the Board.
 To accomplish the mission of the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board which is “ to provide
employers and job seekers a fully integrated system of employment, education, and training services for the
purpose of developing the economic strength and global competitiveness of the Local Area.”
 Oversee the budget, policy implementation, and all programs of the Mountain Area Workforce
Development Board consistent with policies and regulations as dictated by the United States Department
of Labor and the North Carolina Department of Commerce.
 Assist employers in developing on the job training, apprenticeships, career pathways, and other work
based learning opportunities to grow their talent pipeline.
 Work in partnership with Employers, Community Colleges, Economic Developers, Chambers of
Commerce, local governments, public school districts, and others to increase awareness and develop
career pathways for high paying, high skill job opportunities in the Local Area for high school students.
 Work collaboratively to develop a long term talent pipeline to meet the growing demand for high skill,
high paying jobs in the Local Area through innovative partnerships between private sector
businesses, education and economic development.
 Work with Economic Developers to meet the demand for high paying, high skill jobs created by
exisiting business expansion and new business location in the Local Area; workforce is
consistently the top priority for business growth and my job is to make sure the Local Area has the best

Milk 150 – 170 cows, farm 350 acres with multiple crop rotations, supervise five to seven employees with my father and
brother, farm gross income exceeds $1 million annually, ranked by the NC Dairy Producers as one of the top 30 dairy farms
in NC out of over 200 dairy farms for milk quality.
 Manage with other farm managers purchasing of equipment and farm supplies and maintenance of all
farm and dairy equipment. Initiated many efficiencies to lower cost of production in times of volatile
commodity prices.
 Oversee with other farm managers financial, human resource tax, and regulatory compliance.
 Responsible for overseeing total herd health with herd veterinarian, other farm managers, and farm
team members.
 Oversee agriculture cropping operations, waste application, and pesticide application with other farm
managers.

stakeholders, and enacting public policy that improves the economy and educational opportunities of the district and our state.
 Supervised legislative assistant to meet the constituent service needs of over 80,000 people in the
district and almost 250,000 people in Buncombe County.
 Ranked as the 9th
most effective freshman legislator out of 41 NC House freshman legislators and the
55th
most effective out of 120 NC House members as recognized by the NC Center of Public Policy
Research in the 2013-2014 session.

on the percentage of bills sponsored and co-sponsored that were enacted into law.

Represented the people of Buncombe County as the leader of Buncombe County Government. Worked with four colleagues on
a five member board to establish budget and policy for organization with annual budget in excess of $300 million with
approximately 1,200 employees. Overcame partisan differences to meet community and organizational goals to improve the
economy and educational opportunities available to our citizens. Responsible for overseeing top county administrative personnel
in a county manager form of government.
 Supervised along with fellow commissioners county staff consistent with N.C.G.S. Chapter 153A.
 Worked collaboratively with other local governments, state government and federal government to
meet the needs of our community.
 Helped start the Homecoming Job Fair which is the largest job fair in Western North Carolina in
response to meet the workforce needs of new and expanding businesses.
