This document summarizes the experiences and impact of a Latvian secondary school's participation in its first Comenius project. Key impacts included increased staff motivation and involvement in international activities, opportunities for language learning, and making the school's orientation more international. The project benefited students by giving them chances to visit other countries, express themselves freely, and improve their self-confidence. While community involvement was difficult at first, it became easier with help from parents and local organizations. The school recommends full participation in tasks, trusting the project team, and joining such projects to enrich a school's social life.
1) A Latvian secondary school accidentally joined an existing Comenius project between schools in Spain and Latvia. The project aimed to improve language skills and international cooperation.
2) Participating in the project was a dream for the Latvian school and allowed them to motivate staff, improve language skills, and develop an international orientation.
3) Over time, the school improved at involving more staff, students, parents, and the local community in project activities. This helped boost students' confidence and self-esteem. The school recommends that other schools actively participate in international projects for these benefits.

This 12-week pilot course taught course developers and instructors how to teach online using the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) platform. Participants learned how to use various tools in D2L as well as other online teaching tools. They created online course materials like syllabi, discussions, and quizzes. Participants shared tips on using tools like Audacity, Elluminate, and creating accessible PowerPoint presentations. They explored new technologies and reflected on turning face-to-face courses into online formats. The goal was to learn practical online teaching skills and experience online learning from the student perspective.
Alexas Fonseca reflects on the tools and websites used for a student-centered project. Scoop It was their favorite for research, while the Wikispace was useful for organizing information. Prezi and Voice Thread helped with presentations. However, Alexas felt there were too many requirements across different websites, which caused frustration. For future students, they suggest streamlining the tools to focus on Scoop It, Wikispace, Wordpress, and Prezi/Voice Thread for research, organization, reflection, and presentation respectively. Fewer overall requirements would make the process less overwhelming.

II- PROJECT OVERVIEW
1.Description of Our Team
We are Rainbow team. Our team includes five members: Doan Thuy Oanh, Cao Thi
Phuong, Mai Thi Thu Trang, Vu Thi Van and Hoang Thi Ve. We are close friends and
had chances to work in group together; moreover, this is a project not a subject, make
sure that there are a lot of duties, so we formed the group of 5. The schedule in this
2. semester had much free time to self-study at home, so we used to focus on working
together on Tuesday and Thursday every week in the Learning Resource Center. We
chose the topic “Tourism in Ninh Binh”. This is an interesting topic but it is not easy. We
took trouble deciding to choose 3 places in Ninh Binh: Trang An, Hoa Lu Ancient
Capital and Bai Dinh Pagoda. It was also not easy to divide the work. At first, we looked
for the information together one by one place. Then, we gave main ideas for each place.
But this work took us much time without bringing much effective result. After finishing
the first place, we divided the work for each member. Each one would choose a place to
research the information and took the responsibility for collecting main information and
translating into English. Next, we designed the brochure about the place which each
person researched. We had to study a lot of different information sources to achieve the
accuracy. Moreover, thanks to the help of our teacher, Mr Huy Phung, who guided us
along the way, we were taught about four rules of good design, how to make colors,
orrange text books and images. Besides, he also gave us some template brochures, which
were really useful. Therefore, we could finish this project on time.
2. Summary of Our Project
Everyone wants to enjoy the life, and the tourism is the best choice. Tourism plays an
important role for the entertainment. Especially, the summer is comming; it is also the
development of tourism season. So, Rainbow team decided to choose Ninh Binh as an
ideal destination for tourists. The purpose of our project is to advertise for Ninh Binh
tourism. We want to introduce Ninh Binh as a new famous place which many people
have not known before. This place is considered to be the best tourism destination
comparing to other provinces in Red river Delta. Especially, Ninh Binh has become one
of ideal eco-tourism destinations for tourists not only domestic but also international. The
nature gives here many beautiful sceneries and it is called with the name “Ha Long on
land”. Besides, introducing about the natural sceneries, we also want to introduce about
the historical values. For example, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital was the first one of feudal
sate in Viet Nam associated with the history of three dynasties: Dinh, Tien Le and the
beginning of Ly. There are unique architectures and the value of the national history.
Ninh Binh also brings the spirit value. The tourists visit Bai Dinh Pagoda to look for a
peaceful space, and enjoy a quiet and spacious place as well as find a spiritually scared
one. Further more, we hope this project can raise awareness of every people about the
vestiges. So, they can contribute to protect them. To sum up, our team hopes that this
project can help every one know more about Ninh Binh – a new famous tourism
destination.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
Our team used computers and Internet access effectively. Almost members have
computer with high- speed Internet access. Thanks to this, although we lived far away
and did not have much time to meet, we could contact easily each others. For example,
we could exchange information through facebook or email. As a result, we could save
3. time and money for meeting. Moreover, if we had not had the computers, we could not
have found a lot of useful information and images. However; we often entercounted
many difficult things due to computers. For instance, when lossing electric or disconnect
Internet, we could not share documents or discussion. To sum up, computers with
Internet access played an important role to make our success in this project.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
During this project, we have encountered many troubles just at the beginning, because we
did not know anything about this project, felt confused and did not know what we had to
do and what we should do.
First of all, it was quite hard for us to find the necessary information. We did not know
how to make key words, which helped to find out quickly and accurately on the Internet.
Because this project was done about places in Vietnam but by English, we found all
documents not only in Vietnam but also in the international resources. It was easy to find
the information through Internet, but it was hard to know that wheather the information
was accurate or not. Therefore, the details we used must be choosen carefully in a long
time. Next, we had to disscuss together for a long time to set up a suitable timetable for
meeting, because they also had other subjects with other teams. Besides, it was rainy days
at this time, so we used to meet later than the fixed time or even delay the meeting.
Moreover, we also were in trouble to find typical images in Ninh Binh because some
imagines had low-qualification. So, it required us to learn using some softwares for
editting photo such as Adobe Photoshop. Although some members in our team could use
this program, they still learned by themself or even asked for help to make the images
beautiful like we hoped. In addition, the ability of designing was also another barrier
when doing this project. Almost members in our group had not used Microsoft word to
design. As a reasult, it took us much time to practise designing such as: how to mix
colors, orrange the text boxes and images, and select the margin sizes and so on. Because,
each member was responsiable for designing one place, there were many different styles
of design. It was not easy to have the same viewpoint.
Finally, we must spend quite much time to design the brochure again following the
common idea, made us angry and tired. Particually, we had really a big problem when
going to print the brochure. We could not know that to print the brochure as we wanted
was too difficult. There were many photocopy stores, which can not make following our
requirements, others could but we still edited again and again. Finally, it was quite hard
for us to spend time to practice speaking before having the virtual tour. We were very
busy to solve the work of other subjects, I also did not have free time because of having
past time, some members were sick. That was really hard time for us.
Everything was really vague to us, but a few weeks later, under the instruction of my
teacher and information we asked from senior students and people who experienced,
gradually we understood and began to make a detail plan.
4. 5. Our Project Sound Bite
This project makes the relationship among all members in our team become more close-
knit. We realize that working together is very effective and interesting. Moreover, we
have a good opportunity to study about some famous places in Ninh Binh. Although it is
only a virtual tour, we still get a lot of information about each typical place in Trang An,
the ancient capital Hoa Lu and Bai Dinh pagoda. That makes us interested in travelling
more.
III - PROJECT ELEMENTS
1.What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your project?
By using information technology and other materials, our team has created a great
brochure. To reach the consequence like that all of us tried our best. We shared the work
together. Oanh and Trang didn’t have computer so they had to collect information
through books and newspapers and the rest of people used computers to find the
sufficient amount of information to complete this project. Some weeks of lesson we did
not understand how to make brochure, because this is the first time we have undertaken a
project. Fortunately, Ve had reference book of those who learned this project. At the first
time, we thought of using Microsoft office Powerpoint software to do it. But the
following weeks, our teacher gave a few suggestions that it was better if we applied
Microsoft Word for design. He not only gave suggestions but also introduced some links
of website made the good brochure. Each of members read a lot. Van and Ve got the
most understanding about how to use this software effectively, so we were easier to
design. They guided us to use it correctly and usefully. Following the recommand we
only used 30 percent the number of pictures on the Internet. So we used Adobe
photoshop CS4 to get photos of our own. In addition, a large number of images were also
quite rare and low in quality, we applied this software to edit image in order to make
them better such as brightness, color ... One more, lack of information about the
destinations in Ninh Binh province made us be in trouble. We collected them on the
Internet, but that was not accurate enough, we obliged to think about other ways. Before,
Phuong said that she would contact with a tour guide in Trang An to get them. We saw
that all these tools helped us in the creation for this project. The Internet plays a
significant role for the success of this project as well as made the brochure by using
Microsoft office word.
2.Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises
Through this project, we have learned a lot of things. In the beginning period, We
thought this subject was too hard for third-year students like us, because we have not
learned how to design and studied much about the travel tourisms before. Howerver, after
finishing the project, we have discovered many things. Firstly, we often read books,
magazines or newpapaers, but we did not know how people can make them. Maybe, they
5. were made by a complex process by the intelligent people. But now, we have found that,
to make a brochure, it is very difficult but it does not mean that we can not do. Honestly,
we did not believe that we can work as tourist guide as well as design something. But
after learning this course we know how to make it and be more creative. In addition, we
had many skills such as working in group, listening to other people’s opinions, whenever
we had a conflict or argument, all of us kept calm to explain more clearly, also know that
each person had their own strenght, so I believe that we became more understanding and
closer with each other. We have learned that “nothing is impossible”. We did not have
any experience to make a good brochure. And it was not too much familiar with us. In
this course, we had to design one like that, so we had to make reference many sources
such as: books, newspapers and magazines. Our teacher taught us a few necessary
methods to create it such as: contrast, reception, alignment, proximity and so on. We saw
that it was very useful to create a brochure, thanks to meticulous in design, we become
more careful and creative. We also had to study other softwares a lot such as: Microsoft
office word, Microsoft office Powerpoint, Adobe photoshop. Though we still used
Micrsoft office word, we did not know that there are very useful with many good
features. By using a lot of softwares like that, we could work easily (color scheme and
how to create text, background and the different effects) and arrange it logically. We
discovered that, if people have a travelling to anywhere, they should get some
information about this place. Because, it will make people feel more interested in
discovering the new places. Further more, we had to find a lot of information in many
pages both by Vietnamese and English, so we discovered some useful pages to learn
English. Having to write and read much in English help me improve my profestional skill
a lot. Because of many reasons our group did not have a chance to come there and we
deeply regreted, but we will be there in some days soon, when we finish this term
Besides, we have also learned how to split time reasonably and effectively. In this term,
there were five subjects, so we had five different teams. So, if I spent too much time for
only one subject, I could not have time for the others. It required us to have a good
schedule. As a reasult, we must make a timetable by finding suitable days for all
members and others subject In addition, taking a virtual tour is very complex and
demanding, but we have been watching a lot of videos on the Internet to learn how to
make a tour. After that, thanks to this project, we could get a lot of information about
some famous places in Ninhbinh such as: Trang An,the ancient typical Hoa Lu and Bai
Dinh pagoda. These knowledges really make us more interested in travelling, especially
in Ninhbinh. For the great work we have tried with our heart, we are sure that we have
got the highest achivement.
