Summative Reflection

PLE: I did not use my PLE and personally found it pointless. For some people I know their PLE
helped them organize everything, but for myself, I had my own way of organizing my websites
and information so I did not use mine very much.

RSS feed: I did not use my RSS feed all too much. I felt like Scoop It was a better website to use
than my RSS feed. I also thinks this adds to having too many websites and this should not be a
main focus.

Scoop It: Scoop It was by far my favorite website and part of this project. Every day new
articles and websites will pop up with information about your topic. It’s very convenient and a
huge advantage to the research part because you can find so many useful websites.

Videos/Interviews/Documentaries: One of my favorite parts about this project. I like how we
could incorporate videos into our project because it adds more life than just simply speaking in a
Voice Thread or reading a Prezi. It also gives different perspectives of the topic in interviews and
documentaries.

Audios: Audio files were not used in our project. We found the videos a better way to present
the topic than audio files so I do not think they should be a priority

Wikispace: The Wikispace was one of my favorite parts about this project. It was easy to have
one website where everyone could place their information. It also helps to know that everything
you need to complete is on the Wiki template and that the teachers can comment on anything
they need to.

Wordpress: Although I didn’t use my Wordpress all the time, I think it is a good idea for
teachers to keep up with students work and for students to keep up with their own work. It helps
to put all your thoughts down into one place so you know what you have accomplished and what
needs to be finished.

Prezi: I used the Prezi to make slides of information for my Voice Thread. I have used Prezi in
the past for other classes and it is a great tool for presentations. It is very easy to use has
interesting effects that a boring Powerpoint does not have.

Voice Thread: This was my first Voice Thread ever and it did not take me long at all to learn
how to use. It is very simple and easy and is more interesting than a Powerpoint or a paper. The
pictures appeal to the audience more and add more personality to the presentation. The only
thing I do not like is that we cannot upload Youtube videos on our Voice Thread.

To what extent did this type of learning (completely student-centered with teacher as facilitator
rather than focus; self-guided; choice-based) result in a meaningful learning experience for you?
Please explain.
This type of learning taught me how to better pace myself for projects. I need to make sure I
spend equal time on researching and preparing my project. Simple researching for the majority
of the time then preparing my project last minute results in frustration and confusion. The pacing
also goes for working on an everyday schedule. Projects don’t run smoothly if you don’t take
your time and focus each and every day.

Remember that we fully understand the limitations and stress that came as a result of trying to do
this project in so little time at the end of the year. We appreciate your willingness and your
enthusiasm, and we even appreciate your candor in evaluating the process. That being said, what
suggestions can you make that will help us refine this assignment for future students. What did you
like best? What did you not like? {We know more time, and not at the end of the year; you don’t
need to tell us that!}
I liked websites like Scoop It, Wiki, Wordpress, Prezi, and Voice Thread. I did not like how we had so
many requirements. It should be simple without so many websites. For example, simply use Scoop It for
the research, Wiki to place all the information like we did, Wordpress for the meta-cognition, and Prezi,
Voice Thread, or a paper for the presentation. It was difficult making sure you had other requirements like
the three databases because then that’s too many websites we need to use. Symabloo for our PLE I also
thought was too much. Students will become flustered like we all did this year with too many websites.
