1. Narrative Accomplishment Report
on the Official Travel to Indonesia on November 7-11, 2022
After satisfying all the requirements, the group which comprises of the University President Felipe
Salaing Comila, Executive Assistant Andres Arnold W. Lampacan, BSU-Bokod Campus
Executive Dean Shakira B. Herman, and OES Director Anna Cris L. Langaoan travelled to Jakarta,
Indonesia as University delegates to the QS Higher Education Summit: Asia Pacific 2022.
The said event was scheduled on November 8-10, 2022 so the group travelled on November 7
from La Trinidad to catch their flight schedule which will be departing from NAIA, Manila.
Albeit flight delays, the BSU team was able to attend the afternoon activities scheduled on
November 8.
Themed, “The Next Big Thing: Addressing New Opportunities and Existing Challenges in APAC
Higher Ed”, the event was held at the Intercontinental Jakarta Pondok Indah hosted by Universitas
Indonesia and co-host Prince of Songkla University.
In that afternoon of November 8, the team was
able to make it to the venue just right in time to
listen to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pasit Lorterapong, who
currently serves as the Deputy Permanent
Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education,
Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI),
Thailand delivered the High-Level Keynote:
Future Challenges and New Opportunities in
Thai Higher Education. This was followed by
several other speakers who talked about
Charting a Sustainable Future: Universities’
Responsibilities and Commitments, Asking the Right Questions on Climate, etc.
2. After the closing keynote for Day 1
presentations, the Gala Dinner and
Awards Night happened next. This served
as an opportunity for delegates from
different participating universities to
exchange conversations. The group left
the event at 10:00 PM to take some rest at
the hotel.
The activities for the following day
commenced with the presentation of Asia Rankings by Ben Sowter and Leigh Camolins of the
famed QS Quacquarelli Symonds. Panel discussions on Equitable Partnership and The Role of
Higher Education in Pushing towards Renewable Energy Transition followed next.
The topic on Effectively Managing Your Reputation with Academics and Employers Using QS
MoveIN was also presented in the afternoon sessions of day 2.
In between presentations and panel discussions, the BSU team maximized networking
by facilitating queries of other summit participants who went to check on the booth displays
3. of participating Philippine HEIs. In like manner did they visit the booths of other Asian universities
and discovered new learnings not only on higher education standards.
4. The second day activities were capped by the QS Stars and Recognition Awards for Asian
universities who earned their QS Stars and Recognition for this year.
On the third and final day of the event, panel discussions on Asking the Right Questions on Climate,
Competency-Based Learning and Lifelong Skills in a Changing World were conducted
simultaneously.
5. After the Closing Keynote was delivered by UNICEF Education Specialist Azlina Kamal, the
summit participants prepared for the Universitas Indonesia Campus Tour. The tour made the group
understood why and how UI, which used to be in rank 292 in QS World University Ranking in
2019, advanced to rank 248 in 2022.
6. The BSU team went back to the hotel after the tour for dinner before taking some rest.
Since the flight schedule from Jakarta to Malaysia was in the evening of November 11, 2022, team
went for a quick tour around the city specifically at the Monas (Indonesia’s National Monument)
to eyewitness the symbol of the struggle of Indonesian heroes against colonialism and learn more
about Indonesian history.
7. The team headed to the airport to wait for the flight schedule to Malaysia where they will have the
connecting flight to NAIA, Manila but it was probably due to the precarious weather condition
that caused the more than two hours delay. Hence, it was expected that our connecting flight in
Malaysia would have left the time the team gets there but what was unanticipated was that the next
flight will be in the evening of the next day. The airline however, provided the hotel where the
group can stay and dine to compensate for the flight delay. Hence, to make the best out of the
situation, the team decided to explore the city of Kuala Lumpur. This is an added learning on
getting comfortable with the uncertainty and the unexpected.
8. Finally, the team boarded the plane from Malaysia to Manila at around 8:00in the evening of
November 13 and arrived in Manila past midnight. They arrived in La Trinidad at nearly 6:00AM
of November 14 ferried by the BSU vehicle.
